Karen Ann Robertson, age 68 of rural Goodhue passed away peacefully, wrapped in the warm, loving arms of her Savior, on Thursday morning, May 13, 2010 in Rochester. She was surrounded by her loving family.
Karen was born the youngest of 5 children in Stillwater, MN to Erick and Laura (Wendt) Munkelwitz. Karen was raised in Bayport, MN and graduated from Bayport High School. Upon graduating, she had worked as a secretary at the St. Paul Fire and Marine, the Stillwater Prison, and later at the Federal Arsenal.
Karen married Daryl Robertson on August 1, 1964 by the Justice of the Peace, and renewed their wedding vows at a church in Red Wing. Upon moving to the farm, Karen was a devoted wife and mother. Karen loved her children and grandchildren, watching birds, dogs, flowers, driving country roads and looking at the God-given simple pleasures in life!
She will be missed by all who knew her! She is survived by the love of her life of nearly 46 years, Daryl; four children, DeeAnn (John) Whitfield of Hastings, Bill (Karyn) Robertson of Goodhue, Andy (Ellen) Robertson of Cannon Falls, and Steve Robertson of Duluth; six grandchildren, Grace, Matthew, Lauren, Tracy, Allen and Joe; and four great-grandchildren, Tyler, Ellie, Grace and Maria; sisters, Kate (Bob) McCallister of Boulevard, CA and Elenor Wikfors of Geneseo, NY; brother, Ronald Munkelwitz of Stillwater; many nieces, nephews, friends and neighbors.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Erick and Laura Munkelwitz; and sister, Delores Munkelwitz.
Funeral service will be held on Wednesday, May 19 at 11 a.m. at the New Life Church in Wanamingo, with Pastor Pat McBride officiating. Interment will follow at Evergreen Cemetery in Goodhue. Visitation will be held on Tuesday from 5-7 p.m. at Lundberg Funeral Home in Cannon Falls, and on Wednesday at church from 10-11 a.m.
Active pallbearers will be Warren Fandry, John Salmonson, Howard Moechnig, Vic Gammell, Jerry Knudson and Troy Hokanson. Honorary pallbearers will be Dave Olson and Karen’s family.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to Hodgkin’s lymphoma research, the Smile Train, and to offset medical expenses.
