Joseph “Joe” Stein, age 89 of Randolph, died on Sunday morning, May 3, 2020 at Chapel View Health Care Center in Hopkins.

Joe was born at home on March 9, 1931 in Cannon Falls, the son of Mathias and Magdalena (Feidt) Stein. He grew up in the Cannon Falls and New Trier area and attended country school in New Trier. Joe served with the US Army, and upon his honorable discharge, he returned home and worked at Bahls Motor in Hastings as a body man. After his dad’s death, he and his brothers stayed home to work on the farm.

He married Louella M. Langenfeld on November 15, 1958 at St. Boniface Catholic Church in Hastings. He was a member of St. Pius V Catholic Church in Cannon Falls and was formerly a longtime member of St. Mathias Catholic Church in Hampton. Joe farmed most all of his life. He loved dairy farming and his Case I-H implements. He was also an avid MN Twins and MN Vikings fan.

He will be deeply missed by his family… his wife of over 61 years, Louella; children, Jerome (Joanie) of Kellogg, Lorna (Mark) Grieger of Rochester, Larry of Randolph, Mike (Brandie) of Farmington, and Michelle (Kurt) Emery of Stanton; 11 grandchildren and their spouses and families, Andy Stein, Kayden Fox, Brittany and Brandon Stein, Jennifer Kleckley, Jeremy and Jessica Thomas, Brooke and Briana Stein, Kendra and Collin Emery; brother, Nick (Annette) of Cannon Falls; sister, Liz Otto of Hastings; sister-in-law, Kathleen Stein of Hastings; and many nieces, nephews and loving in-laws.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Norbert; and brother-in-law, George Otto.

A private funeral mass will be held at St. Pius V Catholic Church, Cannon Falls, with interment following at St. Mathias Catholic Cemetery, Hampton.
