John Zimmerman

John Edward Zimmerman, age 51 of Cannon Falls, died peacefully at his sister's home surrounded by his loving family on Saturday afternoon, December 9, 2006.



John was born on December 6, 1955 in Northfield, the son of James A. and Elaine E. (Lips) Zimmerman. He attended Cannon Falls High School, and worked for many years in the Cannon Falls area, including DuBar, and as a carpenter for B & L Builders, Rick Knowlton and C.B.I. at Koch Refinery. He has owned and operated Clark Valley Siding and Windows for the past 10 years.

John was an avid outdoorsman, and loved to hunt and fish. He was a member of the Oxford Sportsmen's Club, Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation, and the National Rifle Association. His passion for hunting lead him to not only hunt in Minnesota, but in Canada, Wyoming, Colorado, Idaho, Iowa, and Wisconsin. He also enjoyed demolition derbies and snowmobiling, and was a member of the Twin River Riders Snowmobile Club. After the death of his nephew in 1992, John had organized the Jeff Zimmerman Memorial Pool Tournament and Softball Tournament every year.



He is survived by his mother, Elaine Zimmerman of Cannon Falls; daughter, Tricia (David) Morgan of West Concord; granddaughter, Tristen; his brothers and sister, Russell (Patty) Zimmerman of Goodhue, Bev (Mark) Adelmann, Dan (Debbie) Zimmerman and Joel Zimmerman, all of Cannon Falls; sister-in-law, Kathleen (Harry) Thompson of Maple Grove; 11 nieces and nephews, Ben (Kari-Shane) Zimmerman, Laura Zimmerman, Tracy Zimmerman, Brett (Heidi) Zimmerman, Chris (Shelley) Zimmerman, Becky Louwagie, Amy Adelmann, Jessica Zimmerman, Eric (Erin) Zimmerman, Joel Jr. (Lisa) Zimmerman and Tony Zimmerman; many grand nieces and nephews; numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and loving friends.



He was preceded in death by his father, James Sr.; brother, James Jr.; sister, Wendy; and nephew, Jeff Zimmerman.



Funeral service will be held on Wednesday, December. 13 at 11 a.m. at Spring Garden Lutheran Church, with Pastor Nick Fisher-Broin officiating. Interment will follow at the Methodist Memorial Knoll Cemetery, near Nerstrand.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday from 4-8 p.m., with a prayer service at 7:30 p.m., at Lundberg Funeral Home in Cannon Falls. There will also be visitation at the church on Wednesday from 10-11 a.m.



Memorials are preferred in lieu of flowers to pancreatic cancer research.



Active pallbearers will be Ben, Tracy, Brett, Chris, Eric, Joel Jr., and Tony Zimmerman, and Bryan Lips. Honorary pallbearers will be Butch Lorentz, Gary Robinson, Joe Lyseth, Rick Banks, Larry Grimm, Bryan Burkhalter, Tim Benson, Merwyn Swenson, Scott Grieger and Jimmy Miller.
