John (Jack) Francis Singewald, Jr., age 78, of Northfield and formerly of Rosemount, died on Monday, February 10th, 2025 at Three Links Care Center in Northfield. Jack was born on July 12th, 1946 in St. Paul Minnesota, the son of John and Shirley (Cunningham) Singewald. He graduated from Burnsville High School in 1964 and went on to attend the University of Minnesota before enlisting in the Army in 1965.
Jack completed basic training at Fort Lewis in Washington, where he earned the Expert Marksmanship badge. Following basic training, he was deployed to Vietnam where he served in the infantry as a scout and squad leader on 53 planning operations. During his service, he was awarded the Commendation Award, Good Conduct Award, and attained the rank of Seargent.
After he returned from the war, Jack went to work for his father at Singewald Roofing Company. He married Linda (Holtz) Singewald on January 27th, 1968 in Savage, MN and they raised four children together. Jack enjoyed coaching his children in a variety of sports, including baseball and basketball. In addition, he enjoyed spending time with his family visiting Grand Marais. Jack loved hunting for deer and pheasants, going on family fishing trips to Cherney’s Resort on Six Mile Lake, watching old western movies, and loved to share his stories with any captive audience. Jack was a proud grandpa of eight grandchildren and was always excited to spend time with them.
Jack will be greatly missed by his children; Shannon Singewald of Burnsville, Brad (Lori) Singewald of Cannon Falls, Stacy (Steve) Vanderwerf of Willmar, and Blake (Molly) Singewald of Burnsville; 8 grandchildren, Hannah (Caden) Bell, Hunter, Calvin, and Peter Singewald, Abby, Daniel, and Michael Vanderwerf, Charlotte Singewald; siblings, Bob (Joan) Singewald, Tom (Terry) Singewald, Ron (Lori) Singewald, Cindi (Jim) Vallez, Jim (Cindy) Singewald, Bill (Julie) Singewald, Mike (Rachel) Singewald, Amy (Steve) Battis; brother-in-law Bruce Holtz, and many nieces and nephews.
Jack was preceded in death by his wife, Linda Singewald; parents, John and Shirley Singewald; in-laws Babe and Eilene Holtz, and his sister Mary Hilla.
A memorial gathering will be held at Riverwood Church in Cannon Falls on March 3rd. Visitation will begin at 9:00 a.m. followed by his funeral service at 10:00 a.m. A meal will follow the service, and the interment will be at Fort Snelling National Cemetery at 2:00 p.m.
