John E. "Jack" Haas John Elmer Haas of Goodhue passed away on Saturday January 14, 2017 surrounded by his loving family. A Catholic memorial mass to celebrate his life will be held at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Goodhue on Saturday, January 21 at 10:30 am with Father Randal Kasel officiating. Burial with military honors will follow at Evergreen Cemetery. There will be a visitation on Friday, January 20 from 4-7 pm, with a rosary service at 3:30 pm, and visit one hour prior to Mass on Saturday, all at Holy Trinity Catholic Church. John "Jack" was born in Goodhue on December 29, 1929 to John and Lillian Haas. At the age of 5, they moved to Bellechester, MN. There he attended a little rural school, District #101, for 8 years, graduating from Goodhue High School in 1947. He served in the US Air Force for 4 years with 1 year in Korea. John graduated from Northrop Aeronautical Int. in 1951 as an Air Fram repair specialist in California. He was honorably discharged in 1954. John married the love of his life, Mary Ann Reding in Bellechester on July 2, 1955 at St. Mary's Catholic Church. He worked 4 years at J.H. Ganley Road Construction; Gillet Eaton Foundry in Lake City for 2 years. He was a Local #49 heavy equipment operator with Mann Construction for 4 years and 34 years with Holm Brothers Construction in Goodhue. He retired January 1, 1993. John was a member of the Local #49 Union for 61 years; a member of the American Legion Post #598 in Bellechester for 65 years; a member of the V.F.W. # 5727 Stary Yerka; Zumbrota Golf Club for 16 years; and a parishioner of Holy Trinity Catholic Church for 59 years. Jack enjoyed playing cards, especially Euchre, golf, pop and coffee with the guys, and watching all sports and TV game shows. He cherished spending time with his family and especially all his grandchildren, teaching them the "ways of the world." He was well known for his tall tales, jokes and "one-liners." He is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Mary; four children, daughter Rita (Russ) Urevig of Port Wing, WI, son Michael (Amy) of Waukesha, WI, son James "Matt" (Lisa Hrstka) of Zumbrota, and daughter Shirley (Jim) Hamm of St. Charles; 10 grandchildren, Nicole (Josh) Widdes, Jill (Tony) Burkhart, Meggan Urevig, Maggie (Kevin) Drechsler, Ann Marie Haas, John Haas, Aaron (Marni) Haas, Brooke Haas, Rochelle Hamm, and Natalia (Derrick) Borneman; 5 great-grandchildren, Hanna and Jacob Widdes, Clay Borneman, Brody Burkhart, and Abigail Drechsler; 4 step great-grandchildren, Craig Burkhart, Danika, Zander, and Kenlyn Young; two sisters-in-law, Evelyn (Bernard) Goihl of Lake City and Muriel Reding Benjamin of Rochester; and nieces, nephews, and many friends. In lieu of flowers, the family prefers memorial donations made to the Goodhue First Responders and Goodhue Fire Department, 110 3rd St S, Goodhue, MN 55027.
