Joel Bien

Joel Thomas Bien, age 28 of Red Wing and formerly of Goodhue, died unexpectedly at home on Sunday, May 29, 2016. Joel was born on January 25, 1988 in Red Wing, the son of Kerry and Kim (Bilderback) Bien. He attended Goodhue High School and later attended Brown College, where he received his Bachelor of Science Degree in computer science. He worked as a cage cashier at Treasure Island Resort and Casino. Joel's true passion was music; he loved writing and recording his songs. He was also a video gamer. He will be remembered by his family and friends as a guy with a heart of gold and would always put others first. He loved making people laugh. He is survived by his father, Kerry (Pat) Bien of Goodhue; mother, Kim Bien (Wyatt Hayes) of Red Wing; brother, Jody (Heidi) Bien and their sons, Devin and Riley of Goodhue; brother, Jeremiah (Lacey) Bien and their children, Alissa, Alex, and Jeremiah Jr. of Goodhue; sister, Kellie Bien of Goodhue; grandparents, Vaughn and Therese Bien of Goodhue; step brother, Shawn Hayes of Red Wing; step sisters, Tanya Hayes and daughter, Hunter of Red Wing, Jen (Ryan) Korte and daughter, Abbie of Rochester, Tiffany Lexvold (Greg Blaser) and daughter, Ella of Rochester; and many aunts, uncles, and cousins. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Charles and Diane Bilderback; uncle, Thomas Bien; and aunt, Christine Reiner. Visitation will be held on Thursday, June 2 from 4-8 p.m. at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Goodhue. Mass of Christian Burial will be on Friday, June 3 at 10:30 a.m., with visitation from 9:30-10:30 a.m., at Holy Trinity Catholic Church. Interment will follow at St. Columbkill Catholic Cemetery, Belle Creek. A celebration of his life will be held at the Goodhue Lions Building following the committal service at the cemetery. Memorials are preferred in his memory.
