Jerome Stephen "Joe" Novotny, age 58 of Cannon Falls, died on Saturday, February 9 at the Cannon Falls Medical Center.
Joe was born on January 2, 1950 in Anoka, the son of Louis Jr. and Verneal K. (Roden) Novotny. He graduated from the Cannon Falls High School in 1969, and later attended the Anoka Vo-Tech, where he received schooling in mechanics. He worked at Norris Implement in Cannon Falls, and later was a heavy equipment operator and mechanic for the Operators and Engineers Local #49.
Joe was an avid outdoorsman, and enjoyed hunting, fishing and farming. He also enjoyed classic car shows, flee markets, and spending time with family and friends. Joe had a great ability to tell stories with infinite detail. His love of cooking brought him to enjoy collecting recipes!
Joe's greatest joy and pride in life was his daughter, Jessica!
He is survived by his daughter, Jessica of Phoenix, AZ; his parents, Louis and Verneal Novotny of Cannon Falls; brothers and sisters, Richard (Cheryl) of Evansville, MN, Raymond of St. Anthony, Donald "Greg" (Sarah) of Cannon Falls, Kathleen (Harry) Thompson of Maple Grove, Mary Jo (Clyde) Meadows of Thornton, CO, Patricia (Dave) Thurmes of Hastings, Lawrence "Bobby" of Hampton, Gerald "Jerry" and Daniel (Michelle), all of Cannon Falls and Carol "Susie" (John) Yoakum of San Antonio, TX; sister-in-law, Sue Novotny of Champlin; and three aunts, several nieces and nephews, and many cousins.
He was preceded in death by his brother, Michael; and an infant sister.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, Feb. 15 at 10 a.m. at St. Pius V Catholic Church in Cannon Falls, with Father Jay Kythe officiating. Interment will follow at the church cemetery.
Visitation will be held on Thursday from 4-8 p.m. at Lundberg Funeral Home in Cannon Falls. There will also be visitation at the church on Friday morning from 9-10 a.m.
Active pallbearers will be nephews, Brian, Charles, Brad, Nick, Gabe and Cary Novotny, Ben Zimmerman and Derek Thurmes.
Honorary pallbearers will be Dan Franklin, Dan Millard, Francis Nelson, Brian Laumeyer, Joel and Dan Zimmerman, and Alvin Vieths.
