Jennifer Simi

Jennifer Corrin Simi, age 27 of Apple Valley, died unexpectedly on Tuesday, September 20, 2011. Jennifer was born on January 30, 1984 in Minneapolis, the daughter of Craig and Corrine (Schmitt-Kearns) Simi. She graduated with honors from Eastview High School in 2002 where she was a top ranked tennis player. She attended the University of Minnesota Duluth from 2002-2005 and graduated with a Bachelors of Science in Biology. She loved her time in Duluth where she worked at a greenhouse. She also conducted research in the Duluth swamps studying the habits of native frogs. Jennifer will be remembered as a kind, caring, giving and thoughtful person; many say she was the nicest person they had ever met. She enjoyed cooking with ingredients she grew in her organic garden, salsa dancing, playing piano and guitar, writing poetry and riding her bike. She was a selfless person who gave back to many. Jennifer ventured to Belize to help teach the children whose communities did not have schools. She also helped the Mayan people keep control of their land. She enjoyed her work as a co-manager of the bakery at Andy's Market and as a test grader at Questar where she was employed since 2007. She was also active in her faith. She is survived by her mom, Corrine (Jay) Kearns of Cannon Falls; dad, Craig (Sharon) Simi of St. Paul; brother Joshua Simi of Minneapolis; step-brothers, Travis and Quinlan Kearns; step-sisters, Aleena Kearns, Molly (Andrew) West and Sophie Sjostrom; grandparents, Julie Schmitt of Cannon Falls and Delores and Dennis Simi of Blaine; aunts, Roxanne Copeland, Deborah (Brian) Higgs, Lori (Rick) Nelson and Carla (Jay) Hemmila; uncles, Terry (Peggy) Schmitt and Brent (Sue) Simi and many other family and friends. She is preceded in death by her grandfather, George T. Schmitt. Funeral service will be held on Tuesday, September 27 at 11:00 a.m. at Our Saviour's Evangelical Lutheran Church in Cannon Falls, with Pastor Paul Paurus celebrating. Interment will be held immediately following the service. Visitation will be held on Monday, September 26 from 5-8 p.m. at Lundberg Funeral Home in Cannon Falls. There will also be visitation one hour prior to service at church. Active pallbearers will be Jay Kearns, Jeff Kruse, Terry Schmitt, Brent Simi, Luke Owens, Ron Vivant, Andrew West and Travis Kearns.
