Jeannette Marie (Nelson) O'Connor, 87, of rural Goodhue died of natural causes on Saturday, October 4, 2014 in her home surrounded by family. She was born to Walter and Laura (Schwartau) Nelson on August 24, 1927 in Red Wing. Jeannette graduated from Central High School in 1944 and St. John's School of Nursing in 1948. She was a nurse at the VA Hospital in Minneapolis, Long Beach, California, and St. John's Hospital in Red Wing. She married Joseph O'Connor on August 29, 1953 at St. Kevin's Church in Minneapolis.
Jeannette was a member of St. Columbkill Catholic Church, Goodhue Lioness, Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR), CCW, and Homemakers. She was a homemaker raising her 13 children, and enjoyed spending time with her children and grandchildren, traveling, crossword puzzles and bowling with friends. Survivors include children, Maureen (Alan) Lodermeier, Kevin (Peggy) O'Connor, Geoffrey (Agnes) O'Connor, Roderick (Debora) O'Connor, Sharon (Kevin) Watson, Sheila (Dennis) Gadient, Nicholas O'Connor, Rosemary O'Connor, Roxanne O'Connor (Patrick Costello), Martin (Linda) O'Connor, Laurie O'Connor (Martin Levine), Margaret O'Connor and Mary (Cory) Bollum; one sister, Marian (William) Glew; brother-in-law, Larry O'Connor; 31 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren. Jeannette was preceded in death by her husband Joseph; parents, Walter and Laura; brother and sister in laws, Ralph O'Connor, Robert (Lorraine) O'Connor, Rev. Michael O'Connor, Dorothy (Ted) Brown and Edward (Gerry) O'Connor. A visitation will be held Tuesday October 7 from 4-8pm at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Goodhue. Funeral Mass will be held at St. Columbkill Catholic Church Wednesday October 8 at 10:30am, with one hour visitation prior to the service at St. Columbkill.
