Jeanette L. Gorman, age 89, of Red Wing, passed away peacefully December 8, 2015. Jeanette Louise Johnson was born on May 6, 1926 in Goodhue Township, the daughter of Axel Hugo Johnson and Louise Marguerite (Nordstrom) Johnson. She was baptized at Zion Lutheran Church in Goodhue Township. She graduated in 1943 from Goodhue High School and continued her education for two years at Red Wing normal teacher's training. She became a Catholic at St. Joseph's Church in Red Wing. She married John William Gorman on September 18, 1947 at Church of St. Joseph's in Red Wing. She is an active member since 1947 at St. Columbkill Catholic Church in Belle Creek Township. Jeanette embraced the reform of the Second Vatican Council in the 1960's, especially in the documents about liturgy and ecumenism. She worked in home health care for Goodhue County Public Health for 20 years. Jeanette was proud of her Swedish ancestry, and in 1996, she enjoyed her trip to Sweden. She loved music and passed that love of music to their five children. She was the best cook and baker! She was known for her delicious breads and dinner rolls! Jeanette was very outgoing and enjoyed her social interactions with friends and family. This was an important part of her interfaith dialogue throughout her lifetime. Jeanette was also very active in the Archdiocesan Council of Catholic Women for many years. She is survived by her husband, John; children, Barbara (James) Augustine of Red Wing, William (Susan) Gorman of Goodhue, Rev. James Gorman of St. Paul, John (Stacie) Gorman of Red Wing and Judith (Donald) Safe of Goodhue; 11 Grandchildren, Michael Augustine (Jessica Clemens), Jeffrey Augustine (Samantha Hublit), Benjamin (Nicole) Augustine, Peter Augustine, Joseph (Natalie) Gorman, Shelli (Jason) Fox, Lynette (Christopher) Payne, Calvin Swanson, Jamie Safe, Keith (Ashley) Safe, and David (Heather) Safe; 19 great-grandchildren; sisters-in-law, Betty Johnson of Goodhue, Sr. Vivian Gorman of Sinsinawa, WI, Cecilia Becker of Boston, MA, and Elizabeth Gorman of Red Wing; many nieces, nephews, cousins, neighbors and friends. She was preceded in death by parents, Hugo and Louise Johnson; 4 sisters, Edna (Marvin) Freiheit, Leone (Edward) Nelson, Helen (Carlton) Cremeens, and Doris Johnson; and 2 brothers, Elmer Johnson and Charles (Esther) Johnson; brothers-in-law, George (Dody) Gorman, and Henry Gorman. A visitation will be held on Monday, December 14, from 3:30-7:30pm at Lundberg Funeral Home, 5839 Hwy 19 Blvd, Cannon Falls. Prior to mass, interment will be held at St. Columbkill Catholic Cemetery Tuesday, December 15, 10:30 am, officiated by Rev. James Gorman. A Mass of Resurrection will be held on Tuesday, December 15, at the Church of St. Joseph's in Red Wing at 2:00 pm, with visitation 1-2pm. Refreshments to follow in the Fellowship Hall. Memorials preferred to Ebenezer Deer Crest of Red Wing, Mayo Home Care & Hospice, or to Donor's Choice.
