James Henry Peine passed away peacefully on Sunday, June 2, 2024, at his home at the age of 73. Jim was born on February 26, 1951, the first-born son of John A. and Helen A. (Bauer) Peine. He graduated from Hastings Senior High School in 1969 and went to national guard training at Ft. Lewis in Washington state. He then served at Ft. Ord, California, and upon returning home, he continued farming on the family farm. He married Kitty Schafer in 1972, and they had six children, all boys, during their 17 years of marriage. They later divorced. Jim eventually bought his own livestock and grain farm in Cannon Falls and continued farming until recently. He married his second wife, Sandra Todd, on March 19, 1993. They enjoyed 30 years of marriage until Sandy’s passing last fall.
When Jim wasn’t farming, he enjoyed tractor pulls, euchre, watching NASCAR, the Twins and Vikings, and old western movies. He enjoyed spending time with his family whether it be watching baseball, football, tinkering in the shed, restoring tractors, or just being with his children and grandchildren. After Jim’s retirement, he could usually be found most weekdays having coffee with his friends at Cenex discussing farming and solving all of the world’s problems.
Jim is survived by his sons Curt Peine, Keith (Carla) Peine, Cory Peine, all of Cannon Falls, and Kent (Jessica) Peine of Dennison, stepdaughters Michelle (Justin) Hoff of Rosemont and Jennifer (Chris) Cable of Lake City, ten grandchildren, one great grandchild, siblings Joyce (Bob) McBeath of Bloomington, Gery (Joni) Peine of Cannon Falls, Renee Davis of Eau Claire, WI, Joanne (Chris) Ruttger of Deerwood, Roger (Julie) Peine of Hastings, Jeff Peine of Cannon Falls, and Sue (Jeremy) Seykora of Lakeville, and uncles, aunts, nephews, nieces, cousins, and friends. He was preceded in death by his wife Sandy, his sons Craig and Kevin Peine, and his parents John and Helen Peine.
