James Robinson Goudy, age 92, a lifelong resident of the Cannon Falls area, died on Wednesday evening, December 10, 2008 at the Angels Care Center in Cannon Falls, where he has been residing the past three years.
Jim was born on June 13, 1916 in Stanton Township, the son of Nathaniel and Emma (Robinson) Goudy. He attended school in Cannon Falls, and participated in track and basketball. He graduated from the Cannon Falls High School in 1937. He then went on to Dunwoody Institute in Minneapolis, where he learned the painting and wallpaper hanging trade. Until retirement, Jim owned and operated his own painting and contracting business.
Jim served with the US Army during World War II, from February 26, 1942 until his honorable discharge on October 22, 1945.
He married Junice Bakkethun Kapp on January 12, 1963 in Nashua, IA. They loved to travel! He also enjoyed harness racing, working in his yard and gardening, his Pomeranian dogs, and his family.
He was a member of the First Congregational Church, where he had ushered for many years. He was also a life member of the VFW Nelson Scofield Post #4452 and a life member of the Kraft-Ostrom American Legion Post #142. He was also a 50-year member of the Masonic Oriental Lodge #34.
He is survived by his son and wife, David and Jean Kapp of Cannon Falls; two grandchildren, David John (Terri) Kapp of Cannon Falls, and Kimberly Joy (Robert) Burr of Goodhue; three great-grandchildren, Taylor Kapp, Emilee and Madison Burr; sisters-in-law, Dorothy Goudy of Austin, Anna (Norris) Johnson and Irene Lundell, all of Cannon Falls; nephew, James N. Goudy of Austin; and niece, Elizabeth “Liz” (Richard) Alwes of Millville.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Junice on July 4, 1993; brothers, Nathaniel and Francis Goudy; and sisters, Myrtle and Marie Goudy.
Funeral service will be held on Saturday, December. 13 at 11 a.m., with visitation from 10-11 a.m., at the First Congregational United Church of Christ in Cannon Falls, with Pastor Barbara Martin officiating.
Interment with military honors will be held at 1:00 p.m. at the Cannon Falls Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to the First Congregational Church or the Cannon Falls Food Shelf.
Active pallbearers will be David Kapp, David John Kapp, Jim Soule, John Shellenbarger, Craig Husbyn and Robert Burr.
