Leonora “Idella” Eugenia Clauson, age 94 of Cannon Falls, died at her home on Tuesday, May 11, 2010.
Idella was born at home in Leon Township on August 7, 1915, the daughter of Oscar and Emma (Miller) Olson. She was baptized and confirmed at Spring Garden Lutheran Church, and later graduated from the Cannon Falls High School in 1933. She went on to normal teacher’s training and taught at many different rural schools until 1956.
She married Merle Clauson on June 1, 1946 at Spring Garden Lutheran Church. She was an active member of her church, where she sang in the choir, active in the women’s groups, did quilting, and participated on the archives committee. When her family was young, she had been a 4H leader and involved with home extension group. She enjoyed quilting, gardening, and painting, including rosemaling and porcelain painting.
Idella did extensive genealogy research, and had researched her Swedish background on both sides of the family. She traveled to Sweden on several occasions, once leading a group of 16 nieces and nephews to acquaint them with their Swedish relatives. She had been a member of the Swedish Singers, and taught the Swedish language to others up until last year.
She is survived by her children, Michael Clauson of Glendale, AZ and Cynthia Clauson of Cannon Falls; brother-in-law, Victor Blastervold of Cannon Falls; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Merle on July 18, 1988; sister, Marion Blastervold; and brother, LuVerne Olson.
Funeral service will be held on Monday, May 17 at 11:00 a.m. at Spring Garden Lutheran Church, with Pastors Nick and Cindy Fisher-Broin officiating. Interment will follow at the church cemetery.
Visitation will be held on Sunday from 2-5 p.m. at Lundberg Funeral Home in Cannon Falls. There will also be visitation at the church on Monday from 10-11 a.m.
Memorials are preferred to the Spring Garden Lutheran Church Endowment Fund.
Active pallbearers will be her great nephews, David Blastervold, Kerry, Jay, Jeremy, Thomas, Joshua, Bjorn and Ian Olson, Michael Dorsi, and Sean Ulin.
