Ida Schabert

Ida Schabert, 77, passed away peacefully the evening of June 22nd, 2022. Ida was born in Oakland, California, on January 10th, 1945, to Ellsworth Bettencourt Soares and Anna Carmelita (Rebottaro) Soares.

As a child, Ida enjoyed spending time at her family’s local bakery in San Leandro, CA. When Ida was 17, she met and fell in love with John Schabert. Ida and John married on April 20th, 1963. They started their marriage in California and had two children, Julie and Greg. After they moved to Cannon Falls, MN, they had their third child, Cheryl. Ida and John spent 41 years of marriage together before his passing in January of 2005.

Ida was proud of her Italian heritage and her family. She enjoyed crocheting, puzzles and reading. Ida loved and adored her grandchildren. She kept every piece of artwork a grandchild gave her. She loved to tell people she was a great-grandma and was gaining two great-grandchildren this year.

Ida was preceded in death by her husband, John Schabert; her mother, Anna Soares and father, Ellsworth Soares; stepmother, Hazel Soares; and son-in-law, Mark Sabin.

Ida is survived by her three children, Julie (Scott) Sagre, Greg (Traci) Schabert and Cheryl Sabin; her eight grandchildren, Krysta (Leo) Garbarino, Johnathan (Stephanie) Lenzi, Erica and Ryan Sabin, John "Jack", Maryanna, Alex, and Andrew Schabert; one great-granddaughter, Olivia Lenzi with Baby Lenzi and Baby Garbarino on the way; and her half siblings, Terry, Matt, and Gina.

Visitation will be held on Sunday, June 26 from 3:00-5:00pm at Lundberg Funeral Home in Cannon Falls. A memorial service will be held on Monday, June 27 at 11:00am, with visitation from 10:00-11:00am, at First English Lutheran Church in Cannon Falls. Interment will follow at the Cannon Falls Cemetery.

Family would like to thank the staff at The Terrace at Cannon Falls and St. Croix Hospice for the care they gave Ida.
