Helen Christensen

Helen L. Christensen, age 89 of Bloomington and formerly of Cannon Falls, died on Monday evening, December 18, 2006 at the Minnesota Masonic Home in Bloomington. She was born Jacobe VanderWal on July 20, 1917 in Ellsworth, MN, to Egerbert and Angie (Visser) VanderWal. At the age of 2, following the death of her parents, she was adopted by Charles and Bertha (Wernstrum) Morrow. She married John "Everett" Christensen on September 19, 1937 in Sioux Falls, SD. She and her husband farmed in the Cannon Falls area for 25 years. When their children were young, she was involved in 4H, the homemaker's group, and working on the farm. She enjoyed her flower gardens and painting china. She was a member of the First Congregational United Church of Christ in Cannon Falls. They retired in 1975 and moved to Florida. Her husband, Everett died on February 26, 1998 in Florida. She moved back to Minnesota shortly after his passing. Helen is survived by her children, Dean of San Raefal, CA, Donald (Sharon) of Asheville, NC, Roy ( Linda) of Bloomington, Merle of Las Vegas, NV, James (Lihwa) of Cary, NC and Janis Richards of San Jose, CA; nine grandchildren, Holli (Jens) Roever, Karen (Michael) Spadafora, LeAnn (Alex) McElyea, Russell, Jesse, Jennifer, Julie, Guy and Todd Christensen; and four great-grandchildren, Sofia and Daniel Spadafora, Savannah Roever and Colin McElyea. She was preceded in death by her parents; one brother and two sisters; husband, Everett; infant son, Everett Dean Christensen; and granddaughter, Rene' Christensen. A funeral service will be held on Friday, December 22 at 11:00 a.m., with a visitation from 10-11 a.m., at the Lundberg Funeral Home in Cannon Falls, with the Rev. Dr. Gary Titusdahl officiating. Interment will follow at the Cannon Falls Cemetery. Pallbearers will be her sons and grandsons.
