Helen Benson

Helen Gardella Benson, 97 of Cannon Falls, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, July 26, 2016, with her family by her side at The Gardens Nursing Home in Cannon Falls, MN. Helen was the daughter of Axel and Ida Fredrickson of Randolph, MN, where she attended school. Helen later moved to Cannon Falls with her family. She was a life time member of First English Lutheran Church where she was active in WELCA ladies aid. She was married to Carl Benson for 75+ years. They lived on the Benson Farm west of Cannon Falls. Helen was a 4-H leader for 15 years in the Stanton 4-H Club, and worked at Smeads in Hastings for 15 years. She loved offering hospitality to others along with serving large meals and treats. She was known to the family for her exceptional baking skills. She was preceded in death by her parents, Axel & Ida Fredrickson; brother, Gordon Fredrickson; sister, Mildred Taube. She is survived by her husband, Carl; children, Judy (Dennis) Smith of Kenyon, Robert (Linda) Benson, and Janet (Ed) Thomas of Cannon Falls; 11 grandchildren; 32 great-grandchildren; one great-great grandchild; sister-in-law, Leatrice Fredrickson of Red Wing; sister-in-law, Louise Robinson; and brother-in-law, Larry Benson of Cannon Falls. A visitation will take place from 2-4 pm on Sunday, July 31, 2016 at Lundberg Funeral Home (5839 Hwy 19 Blvd, Cannon Falls). A funeral service will be held on Monday, August 1 at 11 am at First English Lutheran Church (511 W. Belle St., Cannon Falls) with a visitation one hour prior. Burial will follow at Cannon Falls Cemetery. Pallbearers are James Smith, Jeff Smith, Jason Smith, John Benson, Donald Benson, Brian Benson, Josh Banks, and Chad Banks. In lieu of flowers, memorials preferred to First English Lutheran Church and Twin Rivers Assisted Living.
