Harold Leroy Holman, age 88 of Cannon Falls and formerly of Minot, ND, Chicago, IL and St. Louis, MO, died on Friday morning, November 25, 2022 at Mayo Clinic Health System – Cannon Falls Hospital.
Harold was born on February 15, 1934 in Odessa, MN, the son of Mark and Amanda (Steen) Holman. He graduated from Odessa High School in 1952 and went on to attend Mankato State University and Moorhead State. During his academic career, he played and coached many sports, most notably basketball.
Harold proudly served during the Korean Conflict with the US Army and was honorably discharged in 1957.
He married Yvonne Eggemeyer on September 28, 1958 in St. Louis, Missouri.
From 1958 – 1983, Harold worked for SS Kresge as store and district manager. He later owned the Ben Franklin Store in Minot from 1984 – 2002, when he retired.
Harold was involved with multiple charities, including the United Way, serving as a branch president in 1982.
He was an ardent follower of Jesus Christ, serving several churches as an elder and at the time of his passing, a member of First English Lutheran Church. He was Lutheran from his baptism until his passing. His heart was filled with love, which was effortlessly given at all times to his beloved family.
Harold was a kind, funny, gregarious man who will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Yvonne; daughters, Bambi (Robert) Crowley of Cornwall-on-Hudson, NY and Tiffany Holman of Cannon Falls; grandson, Ryan Crowley of Portland, ME; and granddaughter, Madison Crowley of Dublin, IRE.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Mark and Amanda Holman; brothers, Milbert “Bud”, Amer, and Dale Holman; sisters, Carol (Bernard) Swenson, Frances (Lawrence) Rakow, Evelyn (George) Wellnitz, and Gloria (Douglas) Sorenson; and sisters-in-law, Lorraine Stafford and Florence Reed.
A celebration of life service will be held on Saturday, May 27, 2023 at 1:00 pm at Trinity Lutheran Church in Odessa, MN. Interment will follow directly after at the church cemetery.
