Gregory Jon Hempel, age 47 of Cannon Falls, died on Friday morning, November 28, 2008 at the Cannon Falls Medical Center.
Greg was born on September 13, 1961 in Cannon Falls, the son of Joseph and Verida (Langevin) Hempel. He graduated from the Cannon Falls High School in 1980.
He had been involved with the Jaycees, and had bartended at the Yellow Bird, Brewsters and Peelers. Until health issues prevented it, he helped with the Christmas decorating and flower gardens.
He is survived by his mother, Verida “Rita” Hempel of Cannon Falls; five brothers, Kenneth (Cheri) of Waterville, Paul of Hager City, WI, Jeffrey of Hemet, CA, Gerald (Lorena) of Anchorage, AK, and Joel of Cannon Falls; nine nieces and nephews, Jenny, Joshua, Brianne, Brett, Mike, Darius, Joel Jr., Tina and Marie; great nephew, Darius; great niece, Autumn; and aunts, uncles and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his father, Joseph on February 26, 1976; and grandparents.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday, December 4 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Pius V Catholic Church, with Father Jay Kythe officiating. Interment will follow at the church cemetery.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday from 5-8 p.m. at Lundberg Funeral Home in Cannon Falls, and also at church on Thursday from 10-11 a.m.
Active pallbearers will be nephews and nieces, Brett, Brianne, Jenny, Josh, Joel Jr. and Darius Hempel.
