Grant Orton Larson, age 87 of Red Wing, died peacefully at home on Friday, February 10, 2017. Grant was born on January 20, 1930 in Onamia, MN, the son of Tenny W. and Dorothy A. (Orton) Larson. He graduated from Onamia High School in 1948, and went on to serve with the US Army during the Korean Conflict. He was stationed in Germany and honorably discharged in 1952. He married Marlys Jane Haggerty on April 3, 1954 in Potsdam, MN. Shortly after, they moved to Farmington and raised their three children Darryl, Cindy and Nancy. In 1982, they moved to Cannon Falls. Grant was a member of St. Ansgar's Lutheran Church in Cannon Falls, and was also a volunteer driver for those needing a ride to appointments. Grant was employed at Koch Refinery from 1963-1991 and was a mechanic when he retired. His wife passed away on October 5, 1993. A few years later he moved to Red Wing. Throughout his life, Grant loved the outdoors and was an avid fisherman. He also enjoyed woodworking, bird watching, and making maple syrup. He loved being with people and socializing, but will be remembered most for his love of family and their get-togethers. He truly adored his grandchildren! He also enjoyed spending time with his friend Lorraine, sharing dinners and going to concerts. He is survived by his children, Darryl of Bay City, WI, Cynthia (Mark) Larson-Crawford of South Haven, and Nancy Rackow of LaCrosse, WI; nine grandchildren, Thera, Adam, Matthew, Joel (Miranda), Colin, Kyle, Ashley, Marcus, and Nicholas; five great-grandchildren, Ty, Quinn, Uriah, Starlett, and Regan; dear friend, Lorraine Johnson of Cannon Falls; sister, Eunice Leander of Red Wing; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Marlys; grandchildren, Cameron and Mary Jo; and brothers, Ronald and Wayne. Funeral service will be held on Wednesday, February 15 at 1:00 p.m., with visitation from 11 a.m. – 1 p.m., at St. Ansgar's Lutheran Church in Cannon Falls. Interment will follow at the Cannon Falls Cemetery. Pallbearers will be his seven grandsons, Joel, Colin, and Kyle Crawford, Adam and Matthew Larson, Marcus and Nicholas Rackow. Memorials are preferred to the St. Ansgar's Lutheran Church youth group to provide scholarships for Camp Wapogasset.
