Gordon A. Grieger, age 80 of Hastings and formerly of Randolph, died on Wednesday evening, July 8, 2009 at the Angels Care Center in Cannon Falls.
Gordon was born on June 27, 1929 in Inver Grove Township, the son of Rudolph and Marie (Rahn) Grieger. He grew up and attended school in Rosemount. For many years he was involved in farming.
Gordon worked at Hudson Manufacturing in Hastings, and later was employed with Merillat Industries in Lakeville.
Gordon was a longtime member of St. John’s Lutheran Church of Rich Valley in Rosemount. He was an amateur artist, and enjoyed painting and drawing his entire life. He held a special interest in mechanical and household projects. He enjoyed traveling with his companion, Ronnie, and they have traveled throughout the United States, Hawaii, and Europe.
Gordon will be lovingly remembered as a kind and gentle man, who enjoyed spending time with Ronnie’s family and his nieces and nephews at family events.
Gordon was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Awald (Dorothy) Grieger; two sisters, Violet (Allen) Spillman and Rose (Wendell) Gesme; nephews and niece, Darryl, Dale, Matthew and Nancy Grieger.
He is survived by his companion of 24 years, Ronnie Garloff of Hastings, and her family, daughter, Daun Garloff of Hastings, and son, Darren (Robin) Garloff of Cottage Grove and their children, Tia and Rani Karasch, Brittany and Brady Garloff. He is also survived by his brother, Robert Grieger of Fountain Hills, AZ; children of brother, Awald Grieger: Corrine Daily, Diane Peterson, Sue Ekstrom, Mark, and Karen Sickler; children of sister, Violet Spillman: Sandra Spillman Toombs, and Donald; children of sister, Rose Gesme: Roxanne Flaten, Vicki Gesme Duden, Richard, Steven, David, Jim, Lori Busse, and Sara Taylor; children of Robert Grieger: Carmen Lawrence, and Jeff; and great nieces and nephews.
Funeral service will be held on Tuesday, July 14 at 11:00 a.m. at St. John’s Lutheran Church of Rich Valley in Rosemount. Interment will follow at the church cemetery.
Visitation will be held on Monday from 5-8 p.m. at Lundberg Funeral Home in Cannon Falls. There will also be visitation at the church on Tuesday from 10-11 a.m.
Active casketbearers will be Richard, Steven, David, and Jim Gesme, Cal Flaten, Dale Gibson, Jeff Busse, and Dean Taylor. Honorary casketbearers will be Darren and Daun Garloff, Jeff and Mark Grieger, and Donald Spillman.
Memorials are preferred to donor’s choice.
