Gladys Caroline Lundell, age 95 of Cannon Falls, died on Thursday morning, January 29, 2009 at the Fairview Seminary Home in Red Wing, where she has been residing since April, 2007.
Gladys was born on July 8, 1913 in Pepin, WI, the daughter of Oscar and Minnie (Odman) Anderson. She grew up in Blackduck, MN and attended rural country school.
She married Milton R. Lundell on April 20, 1940 at the Spring Garden parsonage. They farmed in the Spring Garden area and raised seven children. When her husband died suddenly, she continued farming. She later went to work for 5 ½ years as a nurses aid at the Cannon Falls Nursing Home. She was then employed at Kid Dud’s, where she did sewing and clipping for 7 ½ years. She returned to work at the Cannon Manor Nursing Home for 5 ½ years. She was a housekeeper at the Cannon Falls Hospital for 3 ½ years, until retiring in 1986.
She was an active member of Spring Garden Lutheran Church, where she was involved in the ladies aid and quilting group. She enjoyed traveling, and spending time with her family.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Milton on August 20, 1964; daughter, Linda Carrol in 1980; infant son; daughter-in-law, Patricia Kjos-Lundell; son-in-law, Billy Leach; twin granddaughters; three sisters, Phoebe Lundell, Valborg Lodmell, and Leona Clarke; and brother, Rueben Anderson.
She is survived by her six children, Verna (Marlyn) Mortensen of Cottage Grove, Bert (Ann) Lundell of Cannon Falls, Ebba Leach of Owatonna, Glen (Linda) Lundell of Cannon Falls, Ed (Linda) Lundell of Sundance, WY, and Dale (Tamara) Lundell of Sterling, AK; son-in-law, Buckley Carrol of Duluth; 16 grandchildren, 28 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great-granddaughter; sister, Delores Kopanger of Burney, CA; and nieces and nephews.
Funeral service will be held on Tuesday, February 3 at 1:00 p.m. at Spring Garden Lutheran Church, with Pastors Nick and Cindy Fisher-Broin officiating.
Interment will follow at the church cemetery.
Visitation will be held on Monday from 5-8 p.m. at Lundberg Funeral Home in Cannon Falls. Visitation will also be held on Tuesday from 12-1 p.m. at church.
