Gladys Clapp

Gladys Marcella Clapp, age 85 of Hastings and formerly of Cannon Falls, died on Monday evening, October 22, 2012 at Augustana Health Care Center in Hastings. Gladys was born at home in Minneola Township, Goodhue County, on July 22, 1927, the only child of Selmer and Sophie (Groff) Aslakson. Gladys married Donald E. Clapp on January 9, 1945 in Minneapolis. She was a life-long active member of Minneola Lutheran Church, where she was a Sunday school teacher and provided janitorial services for many years. She was a full-time mother and homemaker. When her children were old enough, she worked at a variety of positions through the years. She loved to socialize and enjoyed church and community events. She also enjoyed flower gardening, playing cards, and dogs. She will be remembered most for her love of her family; her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, and especially entertaining her grandchildren! She will be sadly missed by her loving family and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, and husband of 55 years, Donald on June 29, 2000. She is survived by her children, Deanne (Earl) Molstrom of Hastings, Nancy (Steve) Napier of Davenport, IA, Susan (Wally) Johnson of Salt Lake City, UT, Donald G. Clapp of Maplewood and Douglas Clapp of Hastings; 9 nine grandchildren, Shelly (Jim) Rohr, Kevin (Rachael Reilly) Molstrom, Michelle (John) Wayne, Christopher Trelstad, Justin and Adam Johnson, Andrew Clapp, Dustin and Nicholas Eckstrom; 7 great-grandchildren, MacKenzie O'Hare, Tyler and Zachary Rohr, Jordon and Natalie Wayne, Alexis and Luke Molstrom; brother-in-law, Earl Clapp of CA; sister-in-law, Lois Mork of Cumberland, WI; and her good friend, Jane Duncan of Cannon Falls. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, October 27 at 1:00 p.m., with visitation from 12-1 p.m., at Minneola Lutheran Church near Goodhue. Inurnment will follow at the church cemetery. Honorary pallbearers will be her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to Minneola Lutheran Church.
