George W. Coombes, age 76, a resident of the Cannon Falls area passed away at his home on Monday morning, January 31, 2011. George was born in Rice Lake, WI on December 31, 1934 to John and Mildred Coombes. George served in the Navy during the Korean War. He enjoyed fishing and spending time outdoors. He is survived by his sons, Robyn (Sue) Coombes of Eagan and Joseph (Barb) Coombes of North Branch; daughter, Penny Coombes; three grandchildren, Corey Coombes, Nichole Coombes and Michael Coombes; brother, Harold Coombes; one sister; and ex-wife Audrey. He is preceded in death by his parents; sons, Larry Coombes and George Coombes; and two sisters. A memorial gathering will be held Thursday, February 3, 2011 at Lundberg Funeral Home from 5-8 pm. Private interment will be held at Fort Snelling National Cemetery at a later date.
