George Burch, Jr

George Lawton Burch Jr., age 66 of Stanton, passed away at his home on Tuesday evening, November 30, 2010. George was born on December 9, 1943 in Northfield, the son of George "Lawton" Sr. and Luella (Robinson) Burch. He entered the United States Army and served from 1964 to 1970. George met Bonnie Steele and they were married on May 31, 1969 in Saint Paul. George worked running Burch Pump Service from 1970 to 1986 before becoming a postal carrier with the United States Postal Service where he worked until retiring in 2007. He was the Chairman of the Stanton Cemetery Association and member of Stanton United Methodist Church. He was active in the Masonic Oriental Lodge #34, VFW Nelson Scofield Post #4452 and Kraft-Ostrom American Legion Post #142. George enjoyed golfing, flying, hunting, fishing and spending time with family. George is survived by his wife of 41 years, Bonnie; sons, Chris (Leanne) Burch of Madison, WI and Tim (Megan) Burch of Avon, CO; mother, Luella Burch of Cannon Falls; sisters, Louetta (Iver) Larson of Kellogg, ID and Joan (Harry) Melhouse of Cannon Falls; grandchildren, Lawton and Mara of Madison, WI; uncles John Burch and Harry (Betty) Robinson all of Cannon Falls; and many nieces, nephews and cousins. He is preceded in death by his father, Lawton Burch. Visitation will be on Friday, December 3rd from 4-8 pm with a Masonic Service at 7pm at Lundberg Funeral Home in Cannon Falls. Funeral services will be at Stanton United Methodist Church in Stanton on Saturday, December 4, 2010 at 11:00 with visitation one hour prior. Interment will follow with Military Honors at the Stanton Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to the Stanton Cemetery Association and Stanton United Methodist Church.
