Garnet Marcella Evangeline Partington, age 86 of Farmington, died on Sunday morning, February 10, 2008 at the Trinity Care Center in Farmington, where she has been residing the past three years.
Garnet was born on April 30, 1921 in rural Cannon Falls, the daughter of Ernest and Agnes (Bloomberg) Swanson. She was baptized and confirmed at St. Ansgar's Lutheran Church. She attended a one room rural country school, and later graduated from the Cannon Falls High School in 1939. She took her normal teacher's training, and taught country school for four years.
Garnet married Peder Wangen on June 24, 1944 at the St. Ansgar's parsonage in Cannon Falls. They were members of Wangen Prairie Lutheran Church, where Garnet taught Sunday School for the youngest children. Garnet had started working at Smead's in Hastings, where she continued until 1986. She and Peder retired from farming in 1969, when they moved to Stanton. They returned to St. Ansgar's Lutheran Church, where Garnet has continued her membership.
They had been married for 28 years, when Garnet's husband, Peder died of cancer on June 25, 1972. She married Jim Partington on October 12, 1974 at the United Methodist Church in Farmington.
Garnet loved life! She enjoyed everything about nature, and loved to be a part of its beauty. She loved reading, crossword puzzles, and doing crafts. She truly enjoyed traveling, and she and her husband, Jim had seen 49 states, Canada and had taken a European trip.
She is survived by her husband of 33 years, Jim Partington of Farmington; son, LeRoy Wangen of Richfield; daughter, Marcy (Jerry) Lindstrom of Bloomington; two granddaughters, Kathy (Doug) Anderson of Richfield and Karen (Mischa) Philleo of Paris, France; and four great-grandchildren, Samantha and Nicole Anderson, Jack and Lily Philleo; three step sons, Myron (Marilynn) Partington of Apple Valley, Russ (Linda) Partington of Lakeville and Dick (Judy) Partington of Farmington; eight step grandchildren and six step great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; first husband, Peder Wangen; three brothers, George, Thore and Arnold Swanson; and four sisters, Lillie McCoy, Bertha Bork, Hazel Kullberg and Gladys Olson.
Funeral service will be held on Wednesday, February 13 at 1:00 p.m. at St. Ansgar's Lutheran Church in Cannon Falls. There will be visitation from noon-1 p.m. at the church. Interment will follow at the Cannon Falls Cemetery.
Memorials are preferred in lieu of flowers.
Active pallbearers will be Doug Anderson, Myron, Russ, Dick and Todd Partington, and Jim Loyva.
