Frederick Gene "Fritz" Kautz, age 90 of Cannon Falls, died on Wednesday evening, July 20, 2011 at the Angels Care Center in Cannon Falls. Fritz was born on April 13, 1921 in Hallock, MN, the son of Fred and Mary (Stave) Kautz. He attended school in Cannon Falls, and went on to serve with the US Navy. Upon his honorable discharge in 1946, he married and had three children. His first wife later died. On April 5, 1980 he was united in marriage to Virginia Leir Wennmacher in Reno, Nevada. He retired from the saw mill in Eugene, Oregon and returned to Cannon Falls in 1986. Fritz then worked 20 years at the nursing home (currently the Angels Care Center) and the Cannon Falls Beacon. Fritz was a member of First English Lutheran Church in Cannon Falls. He was also a member of VFW Nelson Scofield Post #4452. Fritz loved to be outdoors and enjoyed walking. He is survived by his wife, Virginia; his children, Patricia (Dick) Sanseri of Redmond, Oregon, Frederick G. Jr. "Fred" (Sue) Kautz and Robert Kautz, all of Vancouver, Washington; brothers, Floyd (Louise) Kautz of Port Angeles, Washington and Robert Kautz of Henderson, Nevada; sisters, Dorothy Sele of Seattle, Washington, Viola Roy of North St. Paul, and Joan (Chuck) Raines of Moose Lake; 9 grandchildren, Freddy, Lisa, Patricia, Gwen, Gina, Robert Jr., Kelly, Jamie and Nicky; 11 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. Fritz was preceded in death by his parents, Fred and Mary Kautz; sister, Mildred Sauer; and brothers, Harold, Leonard, and Ralph Kautz. Funeral service will be held on Tuesday at 10:00 a.m. at the First English Lutheran Church in Cannon Falls with Rev. Phillip Ruud officiating. There will be visitation one hour prior to service at church. Interment with military honors will be at Fort Snelling National Cemetery at 1:00 p.m., assembly area #2. Pallbearers will be Mike and Sam Landon, Arlen, Dan and Cary Millard, and Kent Otte.
