Floyd Reuben Beckman, age 83, a lifelong resident of Cannon Falls, died on Monday evening, March 19, 2007 at St. Mary's Hospital in Rochester.
Floyd was born at home, the youngest of four children, on September 30, 1923 in Cannon Falls Township, the son of Hjalmer and Victoria (Lorenson) Beckman. He attended rural country school in Cannon Falls Township, and farmed the family farm in Cannon Falls. He was baptized and confirmed at St. Ansgar's Lutheran Church in Cannon Falls.
While farming, he also helped many local residents of Cannon Falls with their garden plowing. He also helped with mowing and maintenance at the Cannon Falls Fairgrounds and the Cannon Falls Golf Course. He and his brother, Monroe both helped with the mowing at the inception of the golf course.
Floyd later worked for Barney and Bill Baird with the Hi-Quality Sand and Gravel. They later expanded their business in to garbage removal. When the Baird's sold their business to DuWayne and Barb Smith (DuBar), Floyd continued to work for the Smith's. For many years, he was employed at Cannon Equipment, where he eventually retired.
After retirement, Floyd continued helping local residents as a handy man and lawn mower! He was easily recognized around town, as he enjoyed riding his bike and his scooter!
Family was very important to Floyd. His nieces and nephews were his "children",and he was very proud of all of them! Floyd enjoyed woodworking, and built birdhouses and whirly gigs. He also loved fishing, and going to threshing shows in the area.
Floyd was a kind and gentle man, and will be fondly remembered for his welcoming smile.
He is survived by his three nieces and three nephews, and their families, Victoria (Rory) Golden of Red Wing, Richard (Sandy) Beckman of Tucson, AZ, Brenda (Dick) Larson of Sioux Falls, SD, Gregory (Pam) Hoffman of Cannon Falls, Robert (Jean) Beckman of Cannon Falls and Marie (Charlie) Nelson of Akeley, MN.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Bernice Hoffman and her husband, Clarence; and two brothers, Monroe and Marvin Beckman.
