Eugene Joseph Tutewohl, age 86 of Cannon Falls and a lifelong resident of Dakota and Goodhue Counties, died on Sunday evening, January 24, 2010 at St. Mary’s Hospital in Rochester.
Eugene was born on February 20, 1923 in Farmington, the second child and first son of Joseph and Margaret (Huckenpahler) Tutewohl. He grew up in the Farmington area and attended country school through the 8th grade, when he left because he was needed to work on his parent’s farm. He entered the US Army in 1946 and served in Occupied Japan overseas. He was honorably discharged in 1947 and returned back to Minnesota. He then met and later married Agnes May Fremouw on July 2, 1949. He and Agnes both loved music and often played together at many church and local events; Gene on the harmonica and Aggie on the piano. Gene has played harmonica since he was a teen, and was known for providing music to entertain those around him!
Gene was well-known at Angels Care Center in Cannon Falls where he has lived the past seven years. Those of us who knew and loved him are sure he is playing his harmonica up there in God’s heavenly polka orchestra and dancing with wife, Aggie, his polka partner of 53 years.
He is survived by his children, Karen Gird (Roger) of Cannon Falls, David Tutewohl (Shirley) of Elysian, Mary (Gary) Enninga of Bloomington, and Todd Tutewohl (Melissa) of Faribault; 13 grandchildren, Troy (Tess) Sommers, Shane (Heather) Sommers, Stacie (Dave) Maloney, Robyn (Scott) Chapman, Ryan Gird (Jess Siebenaler), Shelley (Eric) Hove, Stephanie Tutewohl (Eric Peters), Maranda Enninga (Ryan Radke), Holly (Dan) Sullins, and Joe, Becca, Kayla and Jonathan Tutewohl; 14 great-grandchildren and 3 great-great-grandchildren; sisters, Margaret Tutewohl, Ritha (Martin) Lucking and Doris (Ron) Thelen; and sister-in-law, Dorothy Tutewohl.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Agnes on May 9, 2002; sister, Florence (Tony) Buss; brother, Tom Tutewohl; granddaughter, Jessica Tutewohl; and great-grandson, Taylor Chapman.
Gene will be greatly missed and fondly remembered by many.
