Eugene Sava "Gene" Pelkey, age 90 of Cannon Falls, died on Sunday, January 6, 2008 at St. Mary's Hospital in Rochester.
Gene was born on July 9, 1917 in Hawick, MN, the son of Sava and Nellie (King) Pelkey. He attended the Paynesville area schools.
Gene married the former Marcella Bergstrom on April 24, 1943 in Cannon Falls. He worked at the University of Minnesota Hospital in the maintenance department, but his true passion was driving truck.
He was a member of First Congregational United Church of Christ in Cannon Falls.
Gene is lovingly survived by his wife of over 64 years, Marcella; one sister, Gladys Johnson of Aloha, Oregon; three brothers, Robert (Betty) of Stanton, Allen of Minneapolis and Stewart (Luella) of St. Cloud; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Stanley, Ernest and Virgil Pelkey; sister, Florence Crump and an infant sister.
A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, January 12 at 11 a.m. at the First Congregational United Church of Christ in Cannon Falls, with Rev. JoBeth Marshall, Intentional Interim Pastor officiating.
Visitation will be held for one hour prior to the service at church on Saturday.
Interment will be held at a later date at the Cannon Falls Cemetery.
Memorials are preferred to the Shepherd Center or the First Congregational United Church of Christ.
