Eugene Helgren

Eugene Robert "Jess" Helgren, age 80, a lifelong resident of Cannon Falls, died at home on Tuesday morning, November 18, 2014. Jess was born at home on the family farm on November 11, 1934, the son of Carl and Rose (Pagel) Helgren. He graduated from Cannon Falls High School and went on the serve with the US Army from November 1, 1956 until his honorable discharge in 1958. He married Doris M. Hadler on May 23, 1959 in Goodhue. They made their home in Cannon Falls, and Jess worked in masonry with various people throughout his life. Later in life he worked as custodian for St. Ansgar's Lutheran Church and Midwest of Cannon Falls. He also worked for many years with maintenance at Cannon Falls Cemetery. He was a lifelong member of St. Ansgar's Lutheran Church, and was custodian for many years. He also enjoyed league bowling for many years. He loved his family, and especially enjoyed catching up with friends and socializing. He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Doris; daughter, Dawn (Brian) Wenker and sons, Bruce (Tiffany) and Brian (Diane), all of Cannon Falls; 7 grandchildren, Darla (Ben) Taylor, Sheri (Mark) Perkins, Brent Helgren, Jason (Kelly) Helgren, Travis and Trent Helgren, and Patrick Daniels; 5 great-grandchildren, Sydney and Brock Taylor, Alison and Blake Perkins, and Jax Helgren; sisters and brother, Mary Jane Packard, Diane (Darold) Hanson, Bob Helgren and Kathy (Bruce) Duden; sister-in-law, Betty Helgren; brother-in-law, Don Linkert; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; grandson, Tyler Helgren; brother, Ralph "Bud"; and sister, Janet Linkert. Visitation will be held on Thursday from 4-7 p.m. at Lundberg Funeral Home in Cannon Falls. There will also be visitation at church on Friday from 10-11 a.m. A funeral service will be held on Friday, November 21 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Ansgar's Lutheran Church in Cannon Falls. Interment with military honors will follow at the Cannon Falls Cemetery. Active pallbearers will be Brent Helgren, Jason Helgren, Travis Helgren, Trent Helgren, Patrick Daniels, Ben Taylor, and Mark Perkins. Honorary pallbearers will be Darla Taylor, Sheri Perkins, and Kelly Helgren.
