Eugene Davisson

Eugene R. “Gene” Davisson, age 88, a lifelong resident of Randolph, died on Saturday morning, October 31, 2009 at the Northfield Hospital, Long Term Care Center.

Gene was born on July 7, 1921 in Randolph, the son of Oscar E. and Frieda (Oberdorf) Davisson. He attended the Randolph schools, and went on to serve with the U.S. Army during World War II, being honorably discharged in 1945.

Gene married Rosella E. Lauer on April 22, 1947 in Randolph. Gene was employed for 40 years as the head custodian at the Randolph Public Schools until retirement. He was an active member of St. Mark’s Lutheran Church in Randolph, where he had served on the church council. He was also active in his community, where he was a 31 year member of the Randolph-Hampton Volunteer Fire Department serving as fire chief for 12 years, served as mayor of Randolph, and was a member of the VFW Nelson Scofield Post #4452 in Cannon Falls.

In his retirement, Gene enjoyed making bird houses and feeders. He had made many bluebird houses over the years, which were donated to the Boy Scouts.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Oscar and Frieda Davisson; infant sister, Julia; and brothers, Gerald and Louis Davisson.

He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Rosella; daughter, Linda (Bernard) Perry of Randolph; son, DuWayne (Sarah) Davisson of Hudson, WI; five grandchildren, Brett (Angela) Perry, Keith (Sharon) Davisson, Kevin Davisson, Haley Santella and Nicole Davisson; four great-grandchildren, Sam and Jack Davisson, Michael Marlow, and Mia Santella; brother, Raymond (Doris) Davisson of Cannon Falls; sisters-in-law, Patsy Davisson of Cannon Falls and Ardy Davisson of Los Alamitos, CA; and nieces and nephews.

Funeral service will be held on Wednesday, November 4 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Mark’s Lutheran Church in Randolph, with Pastor Steven Schwartz officiating. Interment with military honors will follow at the Lakeside Cemetery, Randolph.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday from 4-7 p.m. at Lundberg Funeral Home in Cannon Falls. There will also be visitation at the church on Wednesday from 10-11 a.m.

Active casketbearers will be Brett Perry, Keith Davisson, Kevin Davisson, Haley Santella, Nicole Davisson, Bob Lee and Bob Lind. Honorary casketbearers will be the members of the Randolph-Hampton Volunteer Fire Department.

Memorials are preferred to St. Mark’s Lutheran Church.
