Erna Delores Carol Nelson, age 82 of Cannon Falls, died unexpectedly on Saturday morning, January 23, 2010 at the Angels Care Center in Cannon Falls.
Erna was born on April 11, 1927 in Marcus, IA, the daughter of Adam P. and Agnes M. (Thias) Seel.
Erna was united in marriage to Nels E. Nelson on December 1, 1948. They farmed 11 years in Iowa before moving to Minnesota in 1959 and purchasing their own farm near Cannon Falls. After retiring, Erna and Nels continued to make their home on the farm. She was a member of the St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Church of Cannon Falls, where she was involved with the ladies aid.
Erna was a devoted housewife and mother, and enjoyed cooking and baking for her family. She also enjoyed gardening, flowers, and bird watching.
She is survived by her nine children, Paul (Caryl) Nelson of Jackson, Marcia (Dennis) Reps of Utica, Jill (Joe) Dion of Zumbrota, Lyle (Marjorie) Nelson of Jackson, Kay (Dan) Bahr of Byron, Diane (Brian) Helgren of Cannon Falls, Janet (Harry) Chromy of Mankato, Brian (Jeanette) Nelson of Wanamingo and Mark (Faith) Nelson of Cannon Falls; also 29 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, 3 step grandchildren, and l step great grandson.
She was preceded in death by her husband of over 60 years, Nels on October 24, 2009; son, Gary; granddaughter, Angela; and two brothers, Marvin and Marlin Seel.
Funeral service will be held on Wednesday, January 27 at 2:30 p.m., with visitation from 1-2:15 p.m., at St. Paul’s Ev. Lutheran Church, 30289 – 59th Ave Way, Cannon Falls, with Pastor John Baumann officiating. Interment will follow at the Cannon Falls Cemetery.
Active casketbearers will be her grandsons, Paul Nelson Jr., Josh Nelson, Travis Reps, Aaron Clary, Matt Loken, Brad Loken, Luke Nelson, Brent Helgren, Jason Helgren, Nathan Bahr and Tristan Nelson.
