Elmer was born October 25, 1924 the son of Gottlieb and Dora (Kennawisher) Stehr in Edgeley, North Dakota. He attended school at the Wayne #3 Route School. Elmer was drafted into the Army Air Corps at Ft. Snelling on January 26, 1944. His basic training was in Wichita Falls, TX at Shepherd Field. He was discharged on April 1, 1946. He returned to Edgeley and started farming again. In 1950, Elmer moved to St. Paul to work for the Post Office, he worked on the trains and traveled working with the mail. In 1967 Elmer was transferred to the airmail facility at Ft. Snelling where he worked until his retirement in 1980. Elmer would marry the former Mildred Klima. In 1970 he and Mildred would move from St. Paul to Cannon Falls. Elmer is lovingly survived by his daughter Debrah Mullen of Woodbury, his grandchildren Wendy Calkins of Bend, OR, Vicki Hastings of Virginia Beach, VA and Shannon Mullen of Woodbury; 1 great grandson Jake Calkins of Bend, OR.; a brother Oscar Stehr of Minot, ND and a sister Ella Schuler of Bismarck, ND. He was preceded in death by his wife Mildred in 2002.
