Elmer Merlin Jenson, age 81 of Goodhue, died on Saturday evening, June 27, 2009 at St. Mary’s Hospital in Rochester.
Elmer was born at home in rural Cannon Falls on October 9, 1927, the son of Martin and Eza (Moorhouse) Jensen. He attended rural country school near Cannon Falls, and at age 17, he enlisted with the US Navy. He served during WWII from October 22, 1945 until his honorable discharge on July 24, 1946. He later served during the Korean Conflict, from October 24, 1950 until his honorable separation on October 23, 1952.
Elmer had married Irma Munson, and they later divorced. He married Beldora Gilje on October 31, 1951. After her passing, Elmer married Constance “Connie” Mans on December 22, 1973.
He was employed at various jobs including Swift for 20 years, and NSP for over 18 years, when he retired.
He was a member of the American Legion in Red Wing, and was a Mason.
Elmer liked gardening, fishing, and deer hunting in his earlier years.
He is survived by his wife of over 35 years, Connie; children, David (Linda) Jenson of White Rock, Ken (Bonnie) Jenson of Pine Island, Kris (Pam) Jenson of Welch, Karine (Harry) 0tto of Welch, Kim (Dean) Osborn of Chester, IA, Kevin Jenson (fiancé, Amy Thorland) of Wanamingo, and Kurt Jenson (Tasha Seifert) of Zumbrota; 22 grandchildren, 31 great-grandchildren, and 5 great-great-grandchildren; sisters, Betty (Othmar) Fox of Miesville, and Arlene (Russell) Qualle of Cannon Falls; half brother, Roger (Molly) Taube of Dennison; sisters-in-law, Shirley Jenson of Cannon Falls and Chris Jensen of Inver Grove Heights; brother-in-law, Maynard Wells of Northfield; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wives, Irma (Munson) Heitzig and Beldora Jenson; one great-grandchild and one great-great-grandchild; two brothers, Marlowe Jenson and Alton Jensen; sister, Viola Wells; and half brother, Dennis Taube.
Funeral service will be held on Wednesday, July 1 at 11:00 a.m. at Urland Lutheran Church, 6940 Co 9 Blvd, Cannon Falls, with Pastor Dean Lundgren officiating. Interment with military honors will follow at the Wangen Prairie Lutheran Cemetery.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday from 5-8 p.m. at Lundberg Funeral Home in Cannon Falls. There will also be visitation at the church on Wednesday from 10-11 a.m.
Active casketbearers will be sons, Kevin and Kurt Jenson, and grandsons, Benji Otto, Andy, Mike, Dave, Joe and Paul Jenson.
