Elizabeth Quam

Elizabeth Amanda “Betty” Quam, age 99 of Cannon Falls, died on Friday evening, September 4, 2009 at the Angels Care Center in Cannon Falls.

Betty was born at home on February 21, 1910 in Leon Township, the daughter of Tom and Oline (Ronnestrand) Eide. She grew up in Leon Township, was baptized and confirmed at Urland Lutheran Church, and attended country school at District 52. In her youth, Betty had worked with various farm families in need of domestic help.

On February 9, 1935, she married Martin J. Quam, and they raised three sons. Following her husband’s death on December 9, 1961, she went to work at the Mineral Springs Sanatorium for 16 years, retiring in 1979.

Betty is a member of First English Lutheran Church in Cannon Falls. She enjoyed dancing, playing cards (“500”), flower gardening, and lutefisk. Her life was her family, and she loved her time with her sons and grandchildren!

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Martin Sr.; grandson, Kevin Quam; and sisters, Anna Hagen, Martha Ketcham and Nellie Bakkethun.

She is survived by her sons, Martin Jr. (Dorothy) of Red Wing, Dareld (Eileen) and Roger (Judy), all of Cannon Falls; six grandchildren, Dennis (Nancy) Quam, Kerry (Lynn) Quam, Krisanda Corelli, Deanna (Greg) Nielsen, Traci Quam, and Jessica (Matt) Braaten; eleven great-grandchildren, Amanda, Darren and Ashley Quam, Austin, Layne and Jenae Quam, Kelsey Harper, Braedon, Brooklyn and Brenten Nielsen, and Connor Braaten; nieces and nephews; and special friend, Marci French.

Funeral service will be held on Thursday, September 10 at 2:00 p.m., with visitation from 1-2 p.m., at the First English Lutheran Church, 511 W. Belle St., Cannon Falls, with Pastor Philip Ruud and Pastor Dan Forsgren officiating.

Lunch will be served at First English Lutheran Church immediately following the funeral service. Interment will be held at Urland Lutheran Cemetery after the luncheon.

Active pallbearers will be grandchildren, Dennis Quam, Kerry Quam, Krisanda Corelli, Deanna Nielsen, Traci Quam, and Jessica Braaten. Honorary pallbearers will be her great-grandchildren.

Memorials are preferred to the First English Lutheran Church, the chapel fund at Angels Care Center, or donor’s choice.
