Elaine Emaline Zimmerman, age 91 of Cannon Falls, died on Monday, August 11, 2014. Elaine was born a twin on September 18, 1922 in Kenyon, MN, the daughter of Arthur and Bertha (Amacher) Lips. In her youth, she had many 4H projects that won her trips to the state fair. She graduated from Faribault High School in 1941 and went on to normal teacher's training in Red Wing. She taught in District 53 country school in Goodhue County, until marrying James A. Zimmerman on March 13, 1943 at Nerstrand. They later divorced in 1967. She farmed most of her life and enjoyed taking care of the cattle. It was important to make sure the farm help was fed! For several years, she fed many people in the area while a waitress at many restaurants. Following retirement, she worked at Gemini and Berquist Company. She was a former member of Nerstrand Methodist Church and a member of First Congregational United Church of Christ in Cannon Falls, and taught Sunday school at both churches. Elaine was an avid Twins and Vikings fan, and loved to read. She was a staunch Democrat and always stayed current on politics. She did family genealogy and traveled to Switzerland, where there was family history. She is survived by her children, Russell (Patty) Zimmerman of Goodhue, Bev (Mark) Adelmann, Dan (Debbie) Zimmerman and Joel Zimmerman, all of Cannon Falls; 12 grandchildren, Ben (Kari-Shane) and Laura Zimmerman, Tracy, Brett (Heidi) and Chris (Shelley) Zimmerman, Becky (Robby) Peine and Amy (Nate) Raway, Jessica (Pete) Livingston and Eric (Erin) Zimmerman, Joel Jr. (Lisa) and Tony Zimmerman, and Tricia (Dave) Morgan; 20 great-grandchildren, Sarah, Kathryn, James, Kaitlyn (fiancé Jim), Brittany(Jordan), Cole, Beau, Jeffry, Kendahl, Brooks, Alisha, Emma, Tatum, Elle, Avery, Caleb, Lily, Will, Carter and Tristen; brother, Elwood (Delores) Lips of Faribault; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by sons, James Jr. and John; daughter, Wendy; grandson, Jeff; and three sisters, twin Lorraine Stanek, Marjorie Foster and Ruth Lips. Funeral service will be held on Friday, August 15 at 11 a.m., with visitation from 10-11 a.m., at First Congregational United Church of Christ in Cannon Falls. Interment will follow at Methodist Memorial Knoll Cemetery in Holden Township. Visitation will be held on Thursday from 4-7 p.m. at Lundberg Funeral Home in Cannon Falls. Memorials are preferred to donor's choice.
