Elaine Samuelson

Elaine Charlotte Samuelson, age 82, a lifelong resident of the Cannon Falls area passed away on Thursday afternoon, September 27, 2012 at the Seminary Home in Red Wing, where she has been a resident the past 12 years. Elaine was born at home in Leon Township on December 21, 1929 to Victor M. Swanson and Frances (Edstrom) Swanson. She graduated from Cannon Falls High School and attended the MN School of Business. She married Vernald R. Samuelson on September 7, 1951 at Spring Garden Lutheran Church, where she had been baptized and confirmed. Following their marriage, they made their home in Vasa Township, and she was a longtime member of Vasa Lutheran Church. She loved spending time with her family and visiting with friends. She enjoyed reading, music, and crafts, including broomstick crocheting. She loved animals, and enjoyed the Seminary Home activities, especially BINGO. She is survived by her son, Rick Samuelson of rural Cannon Falls; daughters, Kristal (Robert) Swanson of rural Cannon Falls and Kathryn (Lowell) Peterson of Farmington; seven grandchildren, Cora (Harold) Jones of Denver, CO, Lindsay (Mike) Collins of Kenyon, Laura Swanson of Cannon Falls, Britta (Mike) Pahl of Apple Valley, Katrina Peterson, Mikkel Peterson and Samuel Peterson, all of Farmington; sister-in-law, Lyla Swanson of Cannon Falls; and many other extended family, nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Vernald on January 27, 2011; parents, Victor and Frances Swanson; brother, Virgil Swanson; and sister, Adele Albrecht. Funeral service will be held on Sunday, Sep 30 at 3:00 p.m. at Vasa Lutheran Church, with Pastor Kristi Mitchell officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to service at church. Interment will follow at Vasa Lutheran Cemetery. Memorials are preferred to Vasa Lutheran Church or Arthritis Foundation. Active pallbearers will be Mikkel and Samuel Peterson, Mike Collins, Mike Pahl, Robert Swanson and Lowell Peterson. Honorary pallbearers will be Harold and Cora Jones, Lindsay Collins, Laura Swanson, Britta Pahl and Katrina Peterson.
