Edward Francis Ryan, age 80, died on Thursday morning, September 9, 2010 at The Homestead at Maplewood in Maplewood, MN, where he had been a resident for the past 18 months. Edward was born on a farm in Hampton Township on October 31, 1929, the son of Frank and Catherine (Glynn) Ryan. He later moved to Cannon Falls, where he attended school and graduated with the class of 1948. He later graduated from Winona State University. He enlisted in the U.S. Air Force and served during the Korean Conflict. He flew 27 missions over Korea, and was awarded the Air Medal. He worked for 3M for many years, retiring in 1996. He was a lifetime member of the VFW Nelson Scofield Post #4452 in Cannon Falls. Edward built a home in Ramsey, MN where he lived until entering the nursing home. He never married. He is survived by his brothers, twin Patrick Ryan of Inver Grove Heights and James Ryan of Cannon Falls; sisters, Rose Maring of Kenyon, Ellen (Fran) Gall of Nevis, Dedee (Ed) Erickson of Rosemount, and Margaret Ryan of Apple Valley; and many nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents; and his sister, Mary (Mrs. Dick) Daniels. Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday, September 14 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Pius V Catholic Church, 410 Colvill St. W., Cannon Falls. Father Jay K. Kythe will celebrate the mass. Interment with military honors will follow at the church cemetery. Visitation will be held on Monday from 5-8 p.m. at Lundberg Funeral Home, 5839 Hwy 19 Blvd, Cannon Falls. There will also be visitation at the church on Tuesday from 9-10 a.m. Memorials are preferred to St. Pius V Catholic Church. Active pallbearers will be Thomas, Bob, William and Dominic Ryan, Colin Erickson, and Mike Daniels.
