Edna Inetta Christensen, age 90 of Cannon Falls, died on Saturday morning, January 27, 2007 at the Angels Care Center in Cannon Falls.
Edna was born at home in the Welch area on April 24, 1916, the daughter of Helmer and Gertrude (Waslie) Hallanger. She grew up on farms in the Pine Island, Zumbrota and Cannon Falls areas, and attended rural country schools in these locations.
After her marriage to Edward Svien, they moved to Cannon Falls, where she continued to reside the rest of her life. The couple raised three children in Cannon Falls. After the death of her husband, Edward, she married Harry Christensen. With exception to a few years in Seattle, WA, they continued to reside in Cannon Falls.
She was a member of the First English Lutheran Church in Cannon Falls.
Edna enjoyed going to garage sales, and socializing with friends at coffee parties. She loved to walk everywhere, and most enjoyed walking around downtown Cannon Falls and shopping. She loved spending time with her family, and will be fondly remembered for her welcoming smile.
She is survived by her children, Elmer "Sonny" (Millie) Svien of Clintonville, WI, LaVonne "Dolly" Maxfield of Coppers Cove, TX and Karen Johnson of Cannon Falls; ten grandchildren, Frank Miller, Kim Melhouse, Ferlin Miller, Cindy Heinlein, Julie Dorsey, Paul, Rick and Steve Svien, John Maxfield and Debbie Davis; 9 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great-grandchildren; sister, Hazel Peterson of Northfield; and sister-in-law, Dolores Hallanger of St. Paul.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husbands, Edward Svien and Harry Christensen; sons-in-law, Dale Johnson and Darwin Maxfield; two sisters, Helen and Margaret Hallanger; and three brothers, Elmer, Norvold and Arnold Hallanger.
Funeral service will be held on Wednesday, January 31 at 11:00 a.m. at the First English Lutheran Church in Cannon Falls, with Pastor Phillip Ruud and Pastor Kari Williamson officiating.
Interment will follow at the Cannon Falls Cemetery.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday from 5-7 p.m. at Lundberg Funeral Home in Cannon Falls. There will also be visitation at the church from 10-11 a.m. on Wednesday.
Memorials are preferred to the chapel fund at the Angels Care Center.
Active pallbearers will be Frank and Ferlin Miller, Bill Heinlein, Mitch and Matthew Melhouse, and Rev. Richard Waters. Honorary pallbearers will be her grandchildren.
