Eddie Randolph Nelson, age 94 of Cannon Falls, died on Monday evening, November 19, 2007 at the Zumbrota Care Center, where he has been residing since, January, 2007.
Eddie was born on May 13, 1913 on the family farm near Ogilvie, MN, the son of Edward and Mary (Erickson) Nelson. He graduated from Spring Brook Elementary and Ogilvie High School.
In 1930, the family moved to a farm near Wastedo, and later to a farm north of Cannon Falls on the "sanitorium road." Eddie worked on the farm with his parents until 1948, when he and his brother, Harris, began raising mink. They started with 30 females. He continued raising mink on his own for more than 45 years.
He moved from the farm in to Cannon Falls in 1998, where he volunteered at the Stonehouse. He was a faithful member at Our Saviour's Ev. Lutheran Church in Cannon Falls, serving as treasurer and on the board.
He loved his church and family. He enjoyed sports, traveling, and spending time with his family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Edward and Mary Nelson; five sisters, Harriet Young, Edna Mae Larson, Thelma Amundson and two infant sisters; and three brothers, Norman, Harris and Lewellyn Nelson.
He is survived by three nephews, Dennis (Sharon) Amundson of Bloomington, Lew (Barb) Nelson of Omaha, NE and Merle (January) Larson of Cannon Falls; and three nieces, Norma (Dallas) Iverson of Granite Falls, Sandra Mattefy of New Brighton and Marlene (Tom) Nordby of Red Wing.
Funeral service will be held on Saturday, November 24 at 11:00 a.m. at Our Saviour's Ev. Lutheran Church, 30370 Hardwood Way, Cannon Falls, with Pastor Donald Bakken officiating. Visitation will be held at the church on Saturday from 10-11 a.m.
Interment will follow at the Cannon Falls Cemetery.
The family prefers memorial donations to Our Saviour's Ev. Lutheran Church in lieu of flowers.
Pallbearers will be Dennis Amundson, Lew Nelson, Merle Larson, Dallas Iverson, Tom Nordby and Wayne Erickson.
