Dorothy McNamara, age 96, a longtime resident of the Goodhue, MN area, died on Thursday, August 27, 2020, at Deer Crest Assisted Living in Red Wing where she resided for five years.
Dorothy Rita was born on September 10, 1923 in rural Lake City, the daughter of Joseph and Johanna (Laqua) Krismer. She graduated from Lake City High School in 1942 and earned her teaching certificate from Red Wing Teacher’s Training School. She taught in Wabasha County country schools for 8 years and then worked as a server at the Kahler and Carlton Hotels in Rochester, as well as in Pensacola, FL when she and her sister took a side trip to Cuba. Dorothy met Charles at the Pla Mor Ballroom in Rochester, and they were married on October 28, 1961 at St. Joachim Catholic Church in Plainview.
Dorothy and Charles worked together diligently on their dairy and crop farm for many years. Dorothy served on the St. Columbkill Church Council, was a member of the Altar and Rosary Society, sang in the church choir and was a 4-H leader. She traveled to Austria, Ireland, Alaska, Hawaii and many other destinations with Charles, family, friends and agricultural tour groups,
Dorothy was prayerful, nurturing, kind and devoted to her family. She encouraged her children and grandchildren in all of their school, church, youth and community activities and especially loved caring for her grandchildren when her help was needed.
Dorothy is survived by her two daughters Carolyn (Steve) Koziolek of Northfield and Shannon (Lyle) Dicke of Goodhue; four grandchildren Ann (Joe) Evans, Charlie Dicke, Jay Dicke and Nicole Koziolek; two great grandchildren Paxton and Landon Evans; and her sisters/brothers in-law, Agnes Mulhern, Francis McNamara, Ralph McNamara, Florence Ryan, Raymond E. & Marlys McNamara and Rosamond & Kenneth Reding.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband Charles on March 9, 2018; her four sisters and their husbands, Ethel & Sylvester Hofschulte, Loretta & Arnold Kohn, Anastasia & Ralph Warthesen and Bernice & Ervin Wiebusch; and her sisters/brothers in-law, Walter Mulhern, Marjorie McNamara, Cecil & Rita McNamara, Jeanelle McNamara, Joseph & Maxine McNamara, Marie & LeRoy Lexvold and Joseph Ryan.
Visitation, funeral and burial will all be held on Tuesday, September 1, 2020, at St. Columbkill Catholic Church (36483 County 47 Blvd, Goodhue, MN). Visitation will begin at 9 am, and the Funeral Mass will begin at 11:00 am followed by Interment. Memorials are preferred to the St. Columbkill Building Fund. A rosary will be offered in Dorothy’s memory on Sunday, September 13, 2020, prior to the regular 10:30 am Sunday Mass at St. Columbkill. Lundberg Funeral Home of Cannon Falls is assisting the family.
Please plan to wear a mask and social distance. People who attend the visitation will be greeted by Dorothy’s family outside prior to entering the church (weather permitting). We will follow all guidelines for social distancing and anticipate adequate space in the church for all family and friends who would like to attend the Funeral Mass.
