Dorothy Mae Hjelter, age 81 of Hampton, and a lifelong resident of the area, died on Tuesday afternoon, April 15, 2008 at the United Hospital in St. Paul.
Dorothy was born at home in Waterford, MN on July 28, 1926, the daughter of Harold and Glennys (Wales) Gibson. She graduated from Northfield High School in 1945, and later married Glenn E. Hjelter on June 21, 1950 at the Methodist Church in Northfield. Glenn died in July of 1983.
An active member of the Christ United Methodist Church, she had served as church treasurer for many years, took attendance, and made prayer shawls for many people. She was a faithful and loving servant of her Lord and Savior.
She loved gardening, playing cards, and spending time with her family. She was also a devoted Twins fan, and truly lived life to its fullest!
Dorothy was loved by her family and friends, and will be warmly remembered as a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and dear friend.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Glenn; daughter, Elizabeth Marie; her parents; brother, William Gibson; and sister, Beverly Gibson.
She is survived by her sons, Robert of Hampton, Eric (Annette) of Rochester, and Doug of Hampton; two grandchildren, Eric Jr. and Molly; great-granddaughter, Alexis; and two sisters, Carol Bakken of Chippewa Falls, WI and Joyce (David) Swanson of Brooklyn Park. She is also survived by her husband's family, and many nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, April 19 at 3:00 p.m. at the Christ United Methodist Church, 29470 Gaylord Ave., Cannon Falls, with Pastor Daniel Horn officiating. Visitation will be held at the church from 2-3 p.m.
Honorary pallbearers will be her church family.
Interment will take place at a later date at Hillcrest Cemetery, near Hampton.
