Dorothy Aurelia Benson, age 96, a lifelong resident of Cannon Falls, died on Wednesday morning, October 29, 2008 at the Angels Care Center in Cannon Falls.
Dorothy was born on March 22, 1912 in Leon Township, the daughter of Gustav and Selma (Swanson) Young. She attended rural country school, and later Agricultural School in St. Paul.
She married Arthur L. Benson on November 25, 1939 at Spring Garden. They farmed in the Spring Garden area, until his death on April 6, 1967. Dorothy later moved in to Cannon Falls in 1969, and worked in the cleaning department at the Cannon Falls Hospital for many years.
Dorothy was a lifelong, active member of the Spring Garden Lutheran Church, where she was involved with the Willing Workers. She enjoyed sewing, fishing, gardening and traveling. She loved spending time with her family, and especially enjoyed her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
She is survived by her son, Dennis Benson and his wife, Judy of Cannon Falls; three grandsons, Randall Benson and his wife, Rachel of Cannon Falls, Daniel Benson and his wife, Brenda of Wanamingo, and Craig Benson and his wife, Hope of Cannon Falls; and six great-grandchildren, Thomas, Matthew, Rebecca, Ellie, Cameron and Olivia Benson. She is also survived by nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Arthur; and two brothers, Bertle and Vernon Young.
Funeral service will be held on Friday, October 31 at 11:00 a.m. at Spring Garden Lutheran Church, with Pastors Nick and Cindy Fisher-Broin. Interment will follow at the church cemetery.
Visitation will be held on Thursday from 5-8 p.m. at Lundberg Funeral Home in Cannon Falls. There will also be visitation at the church on Friday from 10-11 a.m.
Memorials are preferred to Spring Garden Lutheran Church.
Active casketbearers will be her grandsons, Randall, Daniel and Craig Benson, and great-grandson, Matthew Benson.
Honorary casketbearers will be her great-grandchildren, Thomas, Rebecca, Ellie, Cameron and Olivia Benson.
