Donna Broin

Donna Jean Broin, age 80, formerly of White Rock and Cannon Falls, died peacefully on Wednesday evening, October 14, 2015 at Timber Hills Assisted Living in Inver Grove Heights. She has enjoyed living the past eight years at Timber Hills, where the therapy dogs brought her much joy. Donna was born on November 20, 1934 in Berne, MN, the daughter of Mathias and Hazel (Burr) Wichser. She graduated from Kenyon High School in 1952, and married Marvin A. Broin on June 19, 1954 in Berne. She was a waitress for many years at the Cannon Ball and West Wind Café. She enjoyed people and would always greet you with a welcoming smile! She loved being with her friends, and enjoyed the monthly get-togethers with the "Sexy Six." She was a longtime active member of Spring Garden Lutheran Church, where she served on the altar committee for many years and taught Sunday school. Donna always had a warm, positive attitude, even when she struggled with her physical illnesses. She overcame cancer twice, and continued to live each day with optimism! In 2010, the St. Paul Winter Carnival's Queen of the Snows and King Boreas honored Donna as a "Princess of Sunshine." She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 54 years, Marvin on September 7, 2008; sister, Gwendolyn Wichser; brother, Mathias John Wichser; and nephew, Derek Skordahl. She is survived by her children, Brenda (John) Moravec of Inver Grove Heights and Allen (Jacqui) Broin of Cannon Falls; brothers and sister, Bernard Wichser of Cannon Falls, Delbert (Ann) Wichser of Balch Springs, TX, Yvonne (David) Skordahl of Red Wing, Ron Wichser of Cannon Falls, and Terry Wichser of Murchison, TX; and many nieces, nephews, great nieces, and great nephews. A visitation will be held on Tuesday, October 20 from 5-8 p.m. at Lundberg Funeral Home in Cannon Falls. Funeral service will be held on Wednesday, October 21 at 11 a.m., with visitation from 10-11 a.m., at Spring Garden Lutheran Church. Interment will be held at Holden Lutheran Cemetery. Memorials are preferred to Spring Garden Lutheran Church and Presbyterian Homes. Active pallbearers will be Bill, Jim, Mark and Charlie Wichser, Brian Benson, and Dave Sande. Honorary pallbearers will be Lonnie Skordahl, Theresa Sande, Donna Wichser, Heather Benson, Toni Labrozzi and Kevin Wichser.
