Donald McCarty

Donald Leland McCarty, age 78, passed away July 4, 2022 at The Terrace at Cannon Falls.

Donald was born on December 30, 1943 in Little Rock, Arkansas to Donald Frank & Georgia Lee (Gray).

Donald wore many hats in his life. He was employed at SnoCap Drive Inn as a teenager. He graduated from Monroe High School in St Paul.  Donald attended the University of MN for Advertising for 2 years. Shortly after he went to work at St Paul Pioneer Press. He married Linda Ann Keenan on September 14, 1963 in St Paul. They were married 35 years. They moved to Rochester, MN and Donald was employed at Rochester Post Bulletin for 10 years and Agri News & GloGazette. Later in life, Donald left the newspaper business and became a carpenter. He worked for Zachman Homes and MN Farm Builders. He later ventured off on his own and was a self-employed carpenter. He also volunteered many hours at the Faribault State Hospital as a carpentry instructor as well as many hours with Meals on Wheels. His greatest joy was his family. Donald loved the outdoors and spent many hours fishing and duck hunting on Cedar Lake in Faribault on which he lived for many years. He also loved duck hunting in Arkansas with friends and family. Donald loved to cook and made the best spaghetti in town.

Donald is survived by his children, Kimberly, John (Michelle Ungs) and Katherine McCarty (Marlin Ivy); 8 grandchildren, Justin Hanson, Brandon, Katlyn, Nathan, Preston, and Madyson McCarty, Jaylen and Kaden Bonds; 2 great grandsons, Jacob and Jared Hanson; sister, Lynne (Gary) Claude, John (Donna) McCarty and Patrick (Cindy) McCarty; and many nieces and nephews.

Donald is preceded in death by grandmother, Jeannette Marie; brother, Michael George; grandson, Blake Andrew; mother, Georgia Lee; and wife, Linda Ann.

A memorial gathering will be held on Friday, July 15 from 4-7:00pm at Lundberg Funeral Home in Cannon Falls.
