Donald Isadore Fox, age 84 of Cannon Falls, died on Sunday evening, November 14, 2010 at the Angels Care Center in Cannon Falls. Don was born the youngest of four children on June 4, 1926 on a farm five miles south of Miesville in Dakota County, the son of Isadore and Anna (Boser) Fox. He attended country school through the 8th grade at District #84, just south of Miesville. He worked on the family farm with his dad until 1948. On August 23, 1948, he went to serve with the US Army. Throughout all of his training, he had received his high school GED and rose to platoon sergeant. Don served world-wide for 21 years, including 8 years in Germany, throughout the United States, and in Korea, retiring on March 1, 1969. Don returned to work at Koch Refinery as an operator for 19 years, until his retirement in November, 1988. He resided at Woodland Heights in Cannon Falls for 26 years, until moving to Riverside Terrace in 1996. Don was a member of St. Pius V Catholic Church in Cannon Falls. He was also a lifetime member of the Disabled American Veterans, Chapter #5 in Red Wing, the VFW Nelson Scofield Post #4452 and the Kraft-Ostrom American Legion Post #142, both of Cannon Falls. He was preceded in death by his parents, Isadore and Anna Fox; step-son, Ronald Hess; sisters, Helen Sorenson, Irene Bauer Kimmes and Janet Fox; and nephew, Allen Bauer. Don was loved by his family and friends. He is survived by his son, Donald (Diana) Fox of Baraboo, WI; grandchildren, Rachel Fox of Tampa Bay, FL, Joshua (Miriam) Fox of Denver, CO and Janice Fox of Baraboo, WI; step grandchildren, Daniel Moreno of Phoenix, AZ and Tasha Hess of Baltimore, MD; niece and nephews, Karen Cox, Perry Bauer, Danny and Randy Sorenson; and great nieces and nephews. Don will be greatly missed by his special friend, Dorothy Fox of Cannon Falls. Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, November 20 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Pius V Catholic Church in Cannon Falls, with Father Jay K. Kythe celebrating. Interment with military honors will follow at the church cemetery. Visitation will be held at the church for one hour prior to mass. Active pallbearers will be Joshua Fox, Andrew, Peter, Joel and Perry Bauer, Gene Cox and Bob Boser. Memorials are preferred to St. Pius V Catholic Church, or the Cannon Falls Veterans Memorial.
