Dennis Wilcox

Dennis D Wilcox (KB0YHL) passed away at The Gardens Nursing Home, Cannon Falls, on December 24, 2017.

He is survived by his 6 daughters, collectively still known as “the Wilcox Girls,” and their families. In order: Julie and Chr’s Phelps, Hannah (Riley), Elizabeth and Shannon; Susan Wilcox; Karen and Dave Beacham, Robert and Alan; Lisa and Steve Erhardt, Sydney and Katie; Holly and Ted Hurdle, MaryRuth; Nancy and Jesse Fox, Kelsie, Brady, and Solan. He is also survived by his sister, Kathy VerSteeg (Darrell) and their family.

Dennis was born March 9, 1943 in Durand, Wisconsin, to Donald and Genevieve Wilcox. He married Mary Slininger on September 17, 1966.  They settled in Cannon Falls to raise their family and were members of St. Pius V Catholic Church. He was employed at West Publishing Co. (Thompson Reuters) until his retirement. Dennis was active in the Lions and Knights of Columbus when he was able to be. He was an avid HAM radio buff from high school on, and spent countless hours on the airwaves with his friends from the Hiawatha Valley Amateur Radio Club, especially George Peak. He maintained his radio station even when he moved to assisted living, thanks to understanding staff at Twin Rivers and The View. Dennis liked his ice water, with a high ice to water ratio that not everyone could get right.  He was also, like most of his daughters, in-laws, and grandchildren, a huge Harry Potter fan.

Visitation will be Wednesday, December 27 from 4-7pm at Lundberg Funeral Home in Cannon Falls. The funeral will be Thursday, December 28 at 11am at St. Pius V with a visitation 1 hour prior at the church.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Mary, brothers James and Richard, and niece Darla. The Wilcox Girls request that in lieu of flowers, memorials be sent to the Hiawatha Valley Amateur Radio Club based in Red Wing, to continue their emergency planning drills, or to any organization that helps to further diabetes research.  In the code of the radio guys, “73.”
