Delores "Dee" Ashton

Delores "Dee" Ashton, age 90, of Cannon Falls, died Sunday, Aug. 11, 2024 at her home.

Dee was born September 10, 1933 in Hinckley, MN to Landis Livingston Thompson and Sylvia Bond (Winslow) Thompson Ruiz. They lived in Hinckley, and moved with her family to Minneapolis when she was in the 2nd grade. Dee worked in the bakery at Woolworth’s in Minneapolis for many years. She married James Robert Ashton Jr. on January 1, 1951 at St. Elizabeth’s Catholic Church, Minneapolis. They moved to Alabama, and she worked at a café while Jim was stationed at Camp Rucker. They returned to Minneapolis in 1952. They operated their Regal Ware cookware business for 33 years until retiring in 2009. She was an active member of St. Pius V Catholic Church, Cannon Falls where she was a greeter and usher for many years. She was also a member of the Lake Byllesby Association, serving as treasurer. Dee enjoyed making craft items, and traveling to different craft shows.

Survivors include her sister Cheryl Ann Thompson of Le Sueur, MN, sister-in-law, Connie Ruiz of Minneapolis, MN, as well as nieces and nephews. Dee was preceded in death by her husband, James Robert Ashton, Jr. on Nov. 27, 2018; her parents; stepdad Demetrio Ruiz Jr. (Joe), 6 brothers, Landis “Duane” Thompson, Patrick Thompson, Barye Ruiz, Lloyd Thompson, Richard Thompson, and Bruce Ruiz, husband of Connie.

Memorial services will be at 11 am on Sat. Aug 17, 2024 at St. Pius V Catholic Church, 410W. Colvill St, Cannon Falls, MN 55009. There will be a visitation  one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment will be in Ft. Snelling National Cemetery. Dee's memorial service will be live streamed, and may be viewed by clicking on the link below.
