David Allen "Dave" Olson, age 82, a lifetime resident of Cannon Falls, died peacefully at his home on Sunday, August 18, 2024.
Dave was born at home on the family farm on April 16, 1942, the son of LuVerne and Renay (Swenson) Olson. He graduated from Cannon Falls High School in 1960. He served with the Army Reserves for five years following high school.
He married the love of his life, Patricia Thompson, on April 26, 1963, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Wanamingo, MN. Dave was a lifelong, very active member of Spring Garden Lutheran Church. Along with driving semi for 20 years and spraying fertilizer for 11 years, Dave has been a farmer throughout his life. Among other things, Dave farmed dairy cattle, did crop farming, and even raised ostriches. He was always trying something new! He was a Young Farmer Convention Delegate through Land O' Lakes. He enjoyed boating, motorcycling, and many vacations with his family, but most of all, loved being a husband and father.
He will be lovingly missed by his wife of 61 years, Patricia; his children, Kerry (Linda) Olson, Kim (Dan) Alstrup, Kristi (Mark) Schaut, Robyn (Paul) Berg, and Tricia (Ché) Zachary; 13 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren; three brothers, Larry (Carol) Olson, John (Jan) Olson, and Paul (Mary) Olson; and nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and granddaughters, Nicole Schaut and Kristine Alstrup.
A funeral service will be held on Saturday, August 24, at 11:00 am, with visitation from 10:00-11:00 am, at Spring Garden Lutheran Church in Cannon Falls. Interment will follow at the church cemetery.
Active casket bearers will be Bjorn, Ian, Jay, Jerry, Joshua and Thom Olson, Jeff and Ross Freiheit. Honorary casket bearers are grandchildren, Peggy Beers; Shaun Giles-Olson; Jonathon Alstrup; Zachary and Alyssa Mustful; Emile Schaut; Randy, Marlee, and Parker Berg; Brianne and Aiden Zachary; and dear friends and family, Daryl Robertson, Warren Fandrey, Howard Moechnig, Roy Johnson, Jon Salmonson, Jack LeClair, Dean Anderson, and Aric Freiheit.
Because of how cancer and Lewy Body dementia impacted his family, memorials in his name are appreciated for any of your preferred Cancer and Alzheimer foundations.
