Darrell L. “Andy” Anderson, 82 of Cannon Falls, passed away Saturday morning, January 16, 2010 at his home in Cannon Falls following a lengthy illness.
Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, January 19, 2010 at the Lundberg Funeral Home, 5839 Hwy 19 Blvd., Cannon Falls, with the Reverend Carol Sinykin, officiating. Burial with military honors will be in Cannon Falls Cemetery. Friends may call after 12:30 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Serving as casket beaers were his grandsons; Joshua Twaddle, Ryan Schmidtke, Brian Anderson, Marcus Twaddle, Cole Anderson & Derek Twaddle. Darrell “Andy “ Anderson was born December 8, 1927 in Cannon Falls, Minnesota, the son of Fritz and Tekla (Larson) Anderson. He was raised and educated in Cannon Falls. He enlisted in the United States Army and served in the Korean War, receiving the Korean Service Medal, U.S. Service Medal & the Good Conduct Medal. Following the war he returned to the area and was united in marriage to Peggy I. Meisch on March 22, 1960 in Hastings. The couple made their home in Meisville for a short time and then returned to the farm. Andy had worked construction for many years and was employed with High Quality Sand & Gravel and later the Faust family (Viking Auto Salvage) for over 30 years, retiring in 2007. Andy was a hard worker and enjoyed working with the land, putting up fence, clearing trees and farming through the end of 2009. He especially enjoyed time with his family and grandchildren, putting puzzles together, playing horseshoes and participating in several tournaments. He would say, “Handy Andy is my name, Playing horseshoes is my game.”
Andy is survived by his wife, Peggy of Cannon Falls, his children; Michael (Chris Mathison) Anderson of Red Wing, Gayle (Tom Seifert) Anderson of Hager City, WI, Shelly (Thomas) Twaddle of Owatonna, Sandra (Dale) Schmidtke of Faribault, Christine (Mike) Sjulstad of Northfield, Virgil (Renee Gillispie) Anderson of Cannon Falls,
16 grandchildren; Elizabeth, Joshua, Marcus, Derek, Courtney, Ryan, Raechel, Brian, Cole, Blake, Kyler, Hayley, Andrew, Dillen, Kalahan & Vienna, his brother, Glenn Anderson of Cannon Falls and his sister, Marian Bergman of Minneapolis. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Melody, two grandchildren; John & Memphis, his brothers; Everett, Virgil, Morris, Arlyn & Merle Anderson, Darrel Widholm and sisters; Lorena, Luella & infant sister, Mae.
